Jai Courtney has been offered the role of Kyle Reese, a key character in Paramount and Skydance's Terminator: Genesis. The part of Reese is a gig that spans at least two movies and it's highly likely that Courtney will accept after fending off stiff competition from Boyd Holbrook.

Kyle Reese is the posthumous father of John Connor and the love interest of Sarah Connor. The character was portrayed by Michael Biehn in The Terminator, Jonathan Jackson in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Anton Yelchin in Terminator Salvation

Should Cortney accept, he will join Arnold Schwarzenegger in the new movie, who is reprising his role as the signature cyborg. Game of Thrones' actress Emilia Clarke - recently named the world's most desirable woman - plays Sarah Connor and Zero Dark Thirty's Jason Clarke stars as John Connor.

The big-budget movie is directed by Alan Taylor, who's probably best known for his television work on Bored to Death, Boardwalk Empire and Games of Thrones. He helmed the doomed The Playboy Club too, though returned to form last year with Thor 2: The Dark World.

The movie and subsequent sequels are being financed by Paramount and Skydance, whose David Ellison bought the stake held by his sister, Megan Ellis, for $20 million.

As for Courtney, he's probably best known for starring opposite Bruce Willis in A Good Day To Die Hard and with Tom Cruise in Jack Reacher. Before Terminator, he'll be seen in the Shailene Woodley vehicle Divergent, Angeline Jolie's Unbroken and the Russell Crowe-helmed The Water Diviner. In short, he's hot property in Hollywood.

Terminator: Genesis is set for release on July 1, 2015.
