Taiwanese actor Kai Ko broke down in tears on Friday (29Aug14) as he apologised to fans following his recent arrest on drug charges alongside Jackie Chan's son.

Kai and Jaycee Chan were taken into custody by police in Beijing, China on 14 August (14) as part of a nationwide crackdown on illegal drug use. They both tested positive for marijuana and subsequently confessed to smoking pot.

Kai, 23, was sentenced to 14 days in a detention centre for the charge and he walked free from the Beijing facility early on Friday.

The You Are the Apple of My Eye star, also known as Ko Chen-tung, took part in a press conference with his parents and talent agent that afternoon and issued an emotional apology to everyone he had let down.

Vowing never to use drugs again, a teary Kai said, "I was wrong on this issue. I made a mistake. There is no excuse for it. I was wrong.

"I never realised that Kai Ko is more than just a name for myself. It also means a lot to those who support and love me. It was out of my expectations that anything concerning 'Kai Ko' could have such a big impact on others."

Jaycee Chan, who remains in police custody, has yet to be sentenced. He faces up to three years behind bars after cops also found 100 grams of marijuana during a search of his home and slapped with him a count of "providing a shelter for others to abuse drugs".

Chan's famous father, martial arts film star Jackie Chan, recently addressed his son's drug arrest, admitting he was "ashamed" by the incident.

The Rush Hour star, who was appointed an anti-drug ambassador by China's National Narcotics Control Commission in 2009, also apologised for Jaycee's actions, stating, "I extend our deepest apologies to everyone for the negative impact this has caused on society."
