Action man Jackie Chan thanked firefighters yesterday (03MAY05) at the launch of the ninth WORLD FIREFIGHTERS GAMES in his native Hong Kong, for inspiring him to make a movie about their heroic deeds.

The RUSH HOUR star hates being branded a hero, because he believes firefighters are more worthy of the title.

And the firefighters' strength, determination and teamwork at the event - in which firefighters compete in a range of sports - persuaded him to fulfil his dream of making a film about their brave actions.

He says, "A lot of people call me a hero. Well, (firefighters) are real heroes; they are nameless heroes.

"I have had the script for a firefighter movie for 20 years. It is a dream of mine to make this film; if I do not make it, I will regret it."
