Jack White draws our attention to his manic new single 'That Black Bat Licorice', from his second solo album 'Lazaretto'; a US number one hit album upon release in June 2014. Alongside that, he unleashed a quirky interactive video.

Jack White releases epic new song 'That Black Bat Licorice'

For his first single of the year, Jack White has taken us on a not entirely uncharacteristic journey of surrealism. It's the third single from 'Lazaretto' which, let's face it, hasn't won all its acclaim for being an album of generic rock. This is about as alternative as it gets and with 'That Black Bat Licorice', he takes it to extremes.

Watch the animated video for 'That Black Bat Licorice' here:

It truly is a monster of a song, with a ferocity that matches the surreal visual effects surrounding it. The macabre carnival vibe gives it some sense of humour, while the orchestral loudness and charming vocal arrangements makes it a wonderful party anthem. Released alongside the video was an interactive video, which saw three visuals played in sync; one being a black, white and blue animation which sees a man falling in love with Queen Nefertiti in a bar before cutting off his own tongue, two being a live black and white parallel starring White himself, and three featuring a bunch of music fans just rocking out to the track. The animation was directed by James Blagden, while the headbanging video was helmed by Brad Holland.

The single is released through White's own label Third Man Records, alongside the B-side 'Blue Light, Red Light (Someone's There)', which is a cover of Harry Connick, Jr.'s 1991 single. Meanwhile, White is currently on tour with planned festival appearances at Coachella and Lollapalooza.
