Jack White fires back at journalists for attacking him on his recently published tour rider in a long open letter, after the media took aim for his guacamole specifications and apparent anti-banana front. When writers at the University of Oklahoma published an amended copy of the singer's tour rider in the student paper, people were quick to brand White a 'diva' over some of his rider requests.

While most of the notions were fairly reasonable in terms of refreshments and meals, a specific guacamole was also included as well as a side note stating 'Please note: This is a no banana tour. (Seriously) We don't want to see bananas anywhere in the building'.

Eventually, White decided to clear up the situation with an open letter on his website addressed 'dear journalists and other people looking for drama or a diva'. He began with the guacamole situation, insisting that it was simply an inside joke. 'First off, this is none of your business, but I have no specific demands in my dressing room', he states. 'I know I could ask for lots of things but I actually don't ask for anything. I take with me what I need, and that ain't much. Anything on the rider is for the band and the crew. This 'guacamole recipe' is my hilarious tour managers inside joke with the local promoters, it's his recipe, not mine. It's just something to break up the boredom, seeing who can make it best. Though I wouldn't know because I've never had it.'

Was the banana thing a joke too? Well, apparently not. 'Did it occur to anyone someone on the tour might have an allergy to them? No?' He continued. Though this as a reason would not occur to anyone who read the rider specifications, as a separate allergy notice was issued below referencing only nut, dairy and seafood allergies.

He rounded off his long-winded rant with a word to the fans. 'I know it's a fun thing for people to try to turn me into a jerk and a diva, but in this case it's pretty ridiculous and has almost nothing to do with me', he says. 'My relationship with the fans at that show and how we got to a new place together through music remains intact and I'd love to do it again with them.'

Lesson learned.
