Back in 1964, Author of classic novel 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest', Ken Kesey, set off on a famous road trip across the USA to the New York World's Fair. He was accompanied by what came to be known as 'The Merry Band of Pranksters', a rebellious group of truth-seekers, one of which was Neal Cassady, an icon celebrated in Kerouac's 'On the Road', and the man in charge of decorating and driving their transport - the Magic Bus.
Kesey and his 'Merry Band' decided to take footage of the trip and use it to make a documentary. They recorded on 16MM but the film's editing was never completed, and the footage remained very seldom seen.
Until award winning film maker Alex Gibney and co-director Alison Ellwood were given access to the footage by the Kesey family. They teamed up with the Film Foundation, HISTORY and the UCLA Film Archives to restore over 100 hours of footage, and formed a priceless film about this exceptional piece of America's past.
