The Hollywood funnyman now knows the Dazed and Confused and Before Sunrise filmmaker was the perfect choice, but he once feared the Texas-born Linklater would try and make him act in a more subtle manner.
He says, "I'm a fan of his films, but I wanted to take this role right over the top and I haven't really seen that in any of his movies.
"They're all grounded in reality and I was afraid he was going to take out all my secret sauce.
"I tested him on things and he didn't agree and that worried me. But it didn't matter in the final analysis. He made it better."28/01/2004 15:43
