The music scene of Austin, Texas becomes tainted by lust and illict desires as two aspiring songwriters named Faye (Rooney Mara) and BV (Ryan Gosling) become entwined in two overlapping love triangles with a major player in the music business named Cook (Michael Fassbender) - who encourages them to take their music careers further - and a charming waitress (Natalie Portman). As much as their lives are about making it in the industry and becoming world renowned successes, their lives get more complicated by disloyalty, temptation and infatuation with each other, pushing all of them ultimately further away. Can love last when betrayal lies at every corner?

With tour dates ahead of them and other miscellaneous events in the near future, Calexico are on the way to release their ninth album 'Edge Of The Sun', out on Berlin's City Slang in April this year and featuring various collaborators.
Calexico release 'Edge Of The Sun' in April
Calexico are set to unveil 'Edge Of The Sun', which follows up their 2013 live release 'Spiritoso' and the previous studio album 'Algiers' from 2012. In true Calexico spirit, as they are well-known for their ever changing line-up and huge touring band ensemble, 'Edge Of The Sun' features a huge variety of special guests, beginning with Iron & Wine's Sam Beam - having previously worked on their 2008 album 'Carried to Dust' - who features on the track 'Bullets and Rocks'.
Having often relied on the appreciative howls of the audience to intertwine with the solitary sounds of his acoustic guitar, Iron & Wine's Sam Beam has added several other musicians to his arsenal for shows in the UK and Ireland. A brief set from Daniel Martin Moore, another constituent of Sub Pop's contemporary community, was well received, but his familiar blend of Kentucky infused folk only served to whet the appetite of those who were readying for the prospect of something different from the headline act. After taking to the stage - all facial hair and effortless calm - Beam and his band introduced a wonderfully impressive full sound, which does little to detract from the frontman's obvious talents with the guitar. The beauty of 'Boy With A Coin', with its undeniably catchy hook is quickly countered by the fragmented yet equally absorbing, 'Me And Lazurus'. During Beam's past performances, in which he placed exclusivity on his soft vocals and twanging strings, it would have been folly to envisage the 36-year-old's sound being bolstered by female backing vocals and.saxophone solos, but it works majestically here and, as mentioned, does little to deter from Beam's musicianship, nor his song writing ability.

Sam Beam's impressive mess of wild, pointedly unstyled facial hair suggests an approach to personal grooming inspired equally by Will Oldham and Chewbacca, but in most other respects the songwriter, who records as Iron & Wine, is not a typical alt.folkie. Kiss Each Other Clean sees Beam draw inspiration from funk music, play around with thumb pianos and dissonance, and orchestrate a horn section; in short, he's making open-minded music which consistently avoids being either too earnest or too insular. The results are extremely impressive.

'Walking Far From Home' is the first single to be released from the new album 'Kiss Each Other Clean' by Indie Folksters Iron & Wine. Sam Beam, lead singer, song writer, producer etc. is the voice and vision behind Iron & Wine. Kiss Each Other will represent his forth studio album, this being the follow up to the acclaimed 'Shepherds Dog' released more than 3 years ago.
The new single takes us on a gentle journey of discovery down roads and highways, past oceans and rivers. The rhythm gently undulates to a mellow refrain filled with religious imagery and themes. During the voyage Sam gives us boats of believers, angels, doors to heaven, prayers and then eventually women in a temple and a call to the Lord. There is an all too brief electro interjection of fuzzy synth towards the latter part of the song but generally it hardly changes as Sam lists what he sees as he carries his treasured letters.
'I saw a bird fall like a hammer from the sky,

Sam Beam, Mr Iron and Wine, has had an interesting lineage to date. A professor of cinematography, he took up music late, but can lay quiet claim to being one of the best songwriters around. His earlier releases had a quiet Nick Drake feel, but gradually he has become comfortable adding in instrumentation and layers of interest, most notably on his own (quite outstanding Woman King EP) and on a collaboration with dusty Latin USA rockers Calexico, where hypnotic rhythm drives what could be more typical songwriter fare. The Shepherd's Dog continues the Calexico feel, but moves the Iron And Wine experience closer to early 70's America (of Horse With No Name fame).
The lo-fi sound has been ditched completely now, and producer Brian Deck adds in a richness previously missing in what could be arid air. In the end, this isn't Sam Beam's best batch of songs - there is little with the immediacy of Our Endless Numbered Days or Woman King - but there is a wonderful reward for relaxing into the album and breathing its pace rather than your own. You may fall in love a few times along the way - Resurrection Fern is Trapeze Swinger gorgeous, Boy With A Coin Paul Simon excellent, and The Devil Never Sleeps completes a mid-album sweep with a wonderful piano blues piece. The Shepherd's Dog isn't Iron and Wine's best, but it is still essential listening.
