Swedish filmmaker Ingmar Bergman is to be honoured with the release of a new postage stamp.
The writer/director died on Monday (30Jul07) at the age of 89 and the Swedish Post will release a new stamp to commemorate his life and contributions to his native country's film industry.
Spokesman Thorsten Sandberg says, "Our aim is to show Ingmar Bergman in his role as a film director.
"We were looking forward to honouring Ingmar Bergman's 90th birthday next year and we were planning to release a new stamp edition, but now we will release a memorial edition instead."
The Swedish Post has previously released stamps related to Bergman's movies, including Cries and Whispers, and Wild Strawberries.
The new stamp will be unveiled in January (08).
