The Who

Biography

The Who began as The Detours, a band started by guitarist Roger Daltrey (born March 1st, 1944) in London in the summer of 1961. In early 1962 Roger recruited John Entwistle (born October 9th, 1944), a bass guitarist who had been playing in bands based at their mutual school of Acton County Grammar. John then suggested as an additional guitarist--his school and band friend Pete Townshend (born May 19th, 1945). The five-piece band also had Doug Sandom as drummer and Colin Dawson as singer.

I am fortunate enough to say that I have seen the best of the best rock n' roll LIVE here in the USA having seen the likes of Dylan, The Stones, Led Zeppelin, Bruce, U2, Paul McCartney but NONE of them are even close to The Who LIVE...Its unfortunate that they dont come around as much as the Stones but when they do come around they make it an awesom event. They never were self promoting like Mick & Co. but I will challange anyone to watch the concert for NYC DVD and tell me that the "the world's greatest rock n'roll band is not The OO'

I agree 100%. There is nothing like the Who live. The experience for me was surreal and I will have to see them again. If I don't meet Pete Townsend in this life time, I know we will meet on the other side. I only hope Keith is there too! Shoni Sims
