It starts with darkness, and then the drums. The throb of sub-bass slowly looping it's way out the system sucks you in, and then erupts into an onslaught of pounding beats, wild colour, explosive synths and sheer dance-or-die tribal energy. It's hard to understate - or forget - the force of your initiation into The Other Tribe.
Coming out of the city that can't stop producing visceral, addictive dance music, The Other Tribe were formed in Bristol a couple of years ago. A gig here, a dj set there, chance meetings and late nights watching the sun come up made The Other Tribe the snarling, six piece live dance act that it is now. From the moment they start until the moment the last pulse fades from the sound system, their live set is a relentless, continuous trip interlaced with hooks that lodge themselves into your pummelled cranium. "It's whispered. It's almost dirty" purred the local student mag, Skint Magazine. "If you see one new band this year, make sure it's the Other Tribe. I dare you not to dance." They're the band you watch when you need a shot of adrenalin in your life. They're the band you lose yourself to in a sweaty warehouse party and the band you can't stop dancing to in a sun-drenched field.
A couple of tracks leaked out last year whilst the band travelled out to a succession of festivals and parties across the country. Businessman On Diazepam was featured on a twelve blogs from the UK, Russia, Portugal and the States, and Don't Need No Melody was filmed as the band rocked a heaving, sold-out Crucifix Lane at London Bridge in September, capturing the raw energy of the band as they go through their sweaty paces on stage. Radio play followed from BBC Bristol Introducing, Eddie Temple Morris and Rob Da Bank
.
The band's first single release proper will drop at the end of April 2012 on Black Butter Records. Skirts is a riotous celebration about everything that's right about forgetting about the boring details for a few days and remembering why you're here in the first place. The run up to the release will see some great remixes
and a new video unleashed into the world. Watch out for them.
