Jof (lyrics, vocals) and Peter (music, instruments) met when they were still at school and grew up together in the small Buckinghamshire village of Wendover, a place they describe as being "like a cross between Trumpton and Sunnydale. On the surface it seems idyllic. All flowers and candyfloss, but underneath there is a darkness. The flowers have teeth and the candyfloss is laced". Sharing a love of the lost pop music of the 80s, and of weird and wonderful instruments found at car boot sales, it was only a matter of time before they set about translating the pop songs in their heads into reality. The Best Party Ever, shows the pair to be proud exponents of a ramshackle bedroom aesthetic, combining heartfelt, uplifting music with unique and sweetly eccentric lyrics, reminiscent of Belle and Sebastian, The Beach Boys and Dexy's Midnight Runners.
