SugaRush's conception is as haphazard and unlikely as their music is euphoric and life affirming. During the summer of 2005 revered US soul singer Rahsaan Patterson is thousands of miles from home touring Australia. Looking to kill some time he books a studio for a day off and by chance his producer for the session is Jaz Rogers - a successful songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who yearns to make something original, daring and outlandish. The musical chemistry between the pair is instantaneous and creative sparks fly - Jaz and Rahsaan spend the following months jetting back and forth between their respective residencies in Melbourne and LA writing and recording at a feverish pace. Soon after, the worldwide trio is completed with Jaz's discovery of Danish singer Ida Corr, who recently had a #2 smash with Fedde Le Grand on her hit Let Me Think About It. Boarding passes at the ready, Jaz and Rahsaan go airside again - but this time together and bound for Denmark where they hope to enlist Ida on their musical mission. Looking back on that initial meeting, Ida reflects; "The tracks were sent from heaven, how could I say no? It was a bit weird though, and the next day we were recording in my living room!"
More recently Jaz had the pleasure of being introduced to Lauryn Hill. Aiming to impress, he played her various bits of musical magic he'd been dreaming up, including one or two early, unrefined SugaRush demos. It was the sweet SugaRush sounds which really caught Ms Hill's ear - the star immediately asked to hear more and, in testament to SugaRush's insoluble powers, Jaz has been invited into the studio and now finds himself helping craft her second solo album.
