"We're part of a long train ride," is the way Peter Yarrow visualizes the many events that have highlighted a career three decades long. With characteristic care, Yarrow places the success he's had within a greater context, seeing his accomplishments as part of a tradition, to be credited and carried on. "When I was in high school, I heard The Weavers sing 'If I had a Hammer" at Carnegie Hall," he recalled. "It was inspiring, and it showed me the extraordinary effect that music of conscience can have." That lesson was one which Peter Yarrow took to heart.

| My wife and I just attended your wonderful concert performance at the Center For The Arts in Grass Valley, CA last evening. We sat front and center and enjoyed every minute of the show. I had hoped to speak to you, but the hour was late, there were so many fans surrounding you, and we had a two-hour drive to our home in Volcano. I first heard you sing in 1964 I believe at the University of California, Davis Campus, Freeborn Hall, and it was electrifying. I, like so many others, collected all of your records and played them to death. My wife and I moved to Indiana in 1993 to be with my mother through her final illness and we we thrilled to be able to hear you again in Fort Wayne at an outdoor concert - I believe it was in 1994. I just finished a 42-year career as an anthropologist and educator, and I have been a musician all of my adult life. It was a thrill to be able to see you in such a small venue. We did not have enough cash with us last night, and the Center would not take checks or credit cards, so we did not have a chance to buy the books -- otherwise, we would have bought the set. We did have enough with us to purchase your CD, and also bought the last available CD of Brendan Phillips. When we renewed our Public Television subscription last year we ordered the Peter, Paul, and Mary CD set with the DVD which, happily, has helped to replace the long-expired vinyl recordings -- but not the wonderful album covers. We protest for peace whenever we can, and we are scheduled to go to Georgia in November to protest against the SOA. Thanks for contributing to my life in music -- your songs have filled my mind my entire adult life. I will never forget your story about the soldier who wished to have your words as his epitaph. I wish we could have been friends. Jim Snoke, snokej@southwestpotters | ||

| I have been a fan of yours [ Peter, Paul & Mary]since the sixties, played guitar at the 5th Estate in Hollywood on Sunset of La Cienega. For months I have wanted to express my most sincere sentiments on the passing of Mary Travers, your musical collective voice, musical partner and long time friend. My life has lost a significant jewel and I most proud of you, your heritage, what you all stood for. Peace, equality of man just outright warmth. To you and Noel Paul again I say you three gave me strength to get to 64 years of age. God Bless you. | ||
