'We're pretty sure the original idea of forming Oh Laura came from Joakim. It all started out as a songwriting project,' says guitarist, Jörgen Kjellgren. 'Joakim and I had written a number of songs together when Joakim suggested starting a band with this amazing singer he'd met.
Enter Frida Öhrn; with a voice part serene Scandinavian beauty, part evening sunshine, part endless nights, filter-less cigarettes and whiskey. "We started writing and recording with Frida and immediately felt we were onto something really special." Not long thereafter, Rikard and Magnus joined to complete the setup on bass and drums respectively.
The band started playing live, quickly building a loyal following and catching the attention of Swedish production duo, MixInc, who d recently struck a joint-venture deal with newly formed indie label, Cosmos Records in Stockholm.
Cosmos own their own recording studio which is the former EMI/Abbey Road Studio of Sweden and also the place where the majority of the country s well known artists have recorded since the early sixties. Oh Laura spent the beautiful Swedish summer of 2006 in this legendary building, working on their debut album A Song Inside My Head, A Demon In My Bed, with the band s established songwriting duo of Kjellgren/Olovsson penning most of the album's songs.
Towards the end of recordings a fellow artist and friend of the band, Erik Althoff, approached Frida about a new song he d written, called 'Release Me'. He explained how much he loved Frida s voice and begged her to sing on it. The recording came out so amazing that the band decided to include it on their debut album. Shortly thereafter, 'Release Me' was featured in an international car commercial and their first single was off to an unplanned yet flying start.
Less than a week after it came out in Sweden, in the spring of 2007, 'Release Me' shot to #1 on iTunes and remained the most downloaded song in Scandinavia for many weeks. It went straight in at #6 on Swedish National Radio's biggest music chart show, Tracks - then climbed to #1 for several more weeks. 'Release Me' peaked at #2 on the National Sales Chart and topped the radio charts all over Sweden throughout the summer...
