Mayim Bialik

Mayim Hoya Bialik began her successful acting career as a child and is best known for her lead role as Blossom Russo in the early-1990's sitcom, "Blossom." Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, she made guest appearances on some of television's most beloved shows, including "Murphy Brown" on the Network, "MacGuyver," "Webster" and "The Facts of Life." More recently, she appeared in the television series "Fat Actress" and "Curb Your Enthusiasm." Bialik's other television credits include recurring roles on "The Secret Life of the American Teenager" and "'Til Death."

On the big screen, Bialik played the young­ Bette Midler in the film "Beaches," and appeared in Woody Allen's "Don't Drink the Water." She also portrayed 1960's activist Nancy Kurshan in the film "Chicago 8."

In 2000, Bialik earned a BS in Neuroscience and Hebrew & Jewish Studies from UCLA. She continued her studies at the University, earning a PhD in Neuroscience in 2007, with a doctorate examining Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder in adolescents with Prader-Willi syndrome. Bialik was a dedicated student leader at UCLA Hillel, starting and leading a Women's Rosh Chodesh group, chanting and blowing shofar for High Holiday services, and conducting and writing music for UCLA's Jewish a cappella group.

Bialik is a board member and co-founder and chair of Jewish Free Loan Association's Genesis branch, and is an avid student of all things Jewish. She is devoted to a lifestyle of attachment parenting, homeschooling, natural family living, vegan cooking, and even makes her own shampoo.

Born in San Diego to first generation Jewish American parents, Bialik now lives in Los Angeles with her husband and their two sons. She keeps a traditional Jewish home, caring for her boys with her husband. She is a frequent writer and speaker for a variety of Jewish groups around the United States. Her birth date is December 12.
