Laura Mvula (born Laura Douglas, 23.04.1987)
Laura Mvula is an English soul singer.

Laura Mvula: Childhood
Laura Mvula was born in Birmingham and grew up in the Selly Park and Kings Heath suburbs.
Her early musical influences include the band Eternal.
She attended the Birmingham Conservatoire and graduated with a degree in musical composition.
She used to be a supply teacher at a secondary school and was working as a receptionist when she started sending out demos.

Laura Mvula: Musical career
Laura Mvula used to sing in her aunt's a cappella group 'Black Voices'.
In 2008, she formed a group called Judyshouse which she fronted and wrote songs for.
In 2009, Black Voices and the Lichfield Festival founded the Lichfield Community Gospel Choir which Laura is a director of. She also directs the Alvechurch Community Choir.
After signing with Sony's RCA records, she released her debut EP 'She' in 2012.
That year she was also nominated for the BBC's Sound of 2013 poll and came fourth place.
She released her debut album 'Sing to the Moon' in 2013 with the first single 'Green Garden' charting across Europe.
Her first TV performance took place on 'The Graham Norton Show' in 2013.
