Kaiser Chiefs
Kaiser Chiefs Biography
Their album "Employment" amazingly has burst into our hearts and minds well beyond imagination, 'ours' meaning not only their adoring fans but also the formidable music critics. Preceded by outstanding reviews from The Guardian, NME and the Big Issue in the UK, and to name but one in the US - Rolling Stone & Spin, the album had well and truly arrived on the dance (indie) pop scene. The Chiefs top 40 album status for 18 months in the UK being ensured via the radio medium throughtout the world.
The Chiefs outstanding year was certainly 2005 in all aspects of media coverage. Oh My God released in February 2005 was only a vehicle to their supremacy. Everyone awakened to the fact that this was just a drop in the ocean and there was certainly more where 'I Predict and Riot' and 'Oh My God' came from. This album was not labelled with the usual record company vernacular (filler) as a result of which the band embarked on a show on the road tour. Their ultimate accolade was achieved after appearing on last year's Brit Awards and winning them the Best Live Act, in addition to the two other awards that night.
Despite the bad weather conditions experienced at the Glastonbury 2005, this festival belonged to the Kaisers. The masses were spellbound by the ecstatic sounds emanating from the group. In the same year The Kaisers were honoured by their one day appearance in Philadelphia with Stevie Wonder during celebrations which marked the 20th anniversary of Live Aid .
The band had certainly made its mark with single 'Modern Way' and 'I Predict a Riot' as a mainstream smash so much so that they were offered the opening slot on the NME Brats tour with Bloc Party, The Killers and the Futureheads 12 months later they had cemented their popularity by selling over a million albums in the UK. The past year has seen some of their most outstanding gigs up to the present time. These included two shows at Millenuium Square in their home town of Leeds in addition to a show at Ally Pally in London. In global terms sales of 'Employment' topped at 3 million albums.
Securing a deal in 2006 with sets at Reading and Leeds, T in the Park and Oxegen Festivals they worked on a second album. They continued to write and rehearse in Leeds gaining further awards not only for debut 'Employment' but Album of the Year at the NME ceremony and the sought after Ivor Novello award ultimately equating them with some of the most outstanding songwriters in the history of pop.
A new set of 22 tested tracks taken from various tours in Europe were put together along with songs written and rehearsed in Leeds culminating in the production of 'Yours Truly, Angry Mob'. From this podium, the Kaisers can only progress to greater heights.
