LCD Soundsystem have landed their first number one album in the US.

The New York rockers' aptly-titled record 'American Dream' has shot straight to the summit of the Billboard 200 Album Chart after selling 85,000 units, 81,000 of which were traditional album sales, according to figures from Nielsen Music.

The record was released on September 1 and the figures were recorded up to the week ending September 7.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Karen O Reveals Band Are 'On Hiatus'

Yeah Yeah Yeahs Karen O James Murphy

It might be a while before we hear some new material from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, as the band is reportedly “on a bit of a hiatus”.

The group’s iconic lead singer Karen O spoke to NME magazine for its Christmas edition, and said about the hiatus: “We have to wait to get the urge, get that itch. The time needs to be right and we're OK waiting for that, I think.” When the group does start recording, she believes “it'll be like muscle memory, this unspoken thing between the three of us where it all just… locks in.”

James Murphy Shares 'Remixes Made From Tennis Data'

James Murphy LCD Soundsystem

He was the frontman of one of the most critically well-received bands of the noughties, but James Murphy hasn’t been kicking his heels since the split of LCD Soundsystem. The musician and record label owner has shared a collection of remixes he has made which used data from this year’s US Open tennis competition.

Having teamed up with IBM, who used an algorithm which took a multitude of data from the tournament’s individual matches and produced them into over 400 hours of music, Murphy agreed to remix some of the results and has come up with twelve compositions. It’s something of a labour of love, suffice to say.

James Murphy's Subway Dream: Soundtrack The Underground

LCD Soundsystem James Murphy

James Murphy’s days with LCD Soundsystem are over, but he’s still experimenting with ways to innovate with music. His Subway Symphony project sets out to accompany the daily commute with musical compositions, each unique to a certain subway line.

James MurphyJames Murphy Wants Subway: The Musical

According to a brand new website set up for the purposes of explanation and recruitment of thought, Murphy explains that he’s been “trying for 15 years” to forge a musical partnership between New York’s famous transport system and his brand of electronic music. Currently, he says, “each turnstile emits its own beep, all of which are slightly out of tune with one another, creating a dissonant rubbing-styrofoam-on-glass squeak in stations all around New York City,” on the petition site.

Arcade Fire's Thrilling Risk 'Reflecktor' Is Finally Here. Rejoice

Arcade Fire James Murphy

Following an online leak earlier this week, Reflektor, the fourth album from Canadian indie rockers Arcade Fire is available to stream online.

Husband-and-wife team Win Butler and Regine Chassagne teamed up for an ambitious collaboration with James Murphy for the album and it appears to have paid off.

"A thrilling act of risk and renewal by a band with established commercial appeal and a greater fear of the average," said Rolling Stone.

CBGB Festival To Hold Free Times Square Concert PLUS Music Line-Up Now Announced

CBGB Festival My Morning Jacket The Wallflowers Grizzly Bear James Murphy Atlas Genius Bell X1

The second CBGB Music & Film Festival is set to take over New York next week as hundreds of artists both old and new flood the streets in nearly 175 venues across the city.

The line-up has now been announced for year two of the CBGB Festival which will almost certainly exceed 2012's set-up. On October 8th - 13th, more than 700 artists will spread out in a celebration of some of the greatest music to have ever come out of New York - we are, of course, talking about the legendary 70s club of the same name that was founded by Hilly Kristal and saw the beginnings of icons such as Ramones, Misfits, the Patti Smith Group, Blondie, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts and Talking Heads.

Must-see artists this year include Kentucky rockers My Morning Jacket, Californian quartet The Wallflowers and New York's own Grizzly Bear. We will also get to see a special DJ set by LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy and all female tribute act Lez Zeppelin will be making an appearance, though with only three songs so make sure you don't miss it! It's not all about Americans either as CBGB happily opens its arms to the likes of Aussie trio Atlas Genius who released their debut album earlier this year and eclectic Irish band Bell X1 who also released an album which reached number one in the Irish charts.

Shut Up And Play The Hits Review

Excellent
On 2 April 2011, LCD Soundsystem played its last gig at Madison Square Garden in New York. It was an extravagant four-hour concert that fans didn't want to see come to an end. But even non-fans will enjoy this inventive film about the 48 hours around that event, following frontman James Murphy in the day before and after, plus extensive footage of the performance itself.

It came as a shock when Murphy announced that after just over 10 years, he was shutting his band down. Amid questions about why he came to this decision, we watch him being interviewed by journalist Klosterman, talking about the stress of touring at age 41 (he struck fame at the relatively late age of 30) and the impossibility of having a normal life or relationship. We also see him wake up in the morning after the concert with his chubby French bulldog at his side, then make coffee and wander around town, taking an emotional look at the band's history stored in a warehouse and meeting up for a meal with his friends.
