Hilary Hahn

I got to hear Hilary Hahn in concert in early November, 2005. Hearing her live confirmed my suspicion that she is the best violinist in the world today. Her solo performances were each the best performances I'd ever heard, live or recorded.Her longime accompaniest, Natalie Zhu, is a fine musician in her own right. However, the two musicians have different senses of timing. This resulted in a lack of what is called in the jazz world, "tightness," and detracted from the musicalness of the performance.I wondered if this was a one-performance anomaly, so I visited Hilary Hahn's website, where she has has several long samples of performances available. While not as egregiously out of sync on recordings, the problem remains.The two musicians no doubt have a great personal relationship...and yet they should split professionally. Temporally they just don't get along.Ms. Hahn is the best in the world, and should play with someone who has not only the requisite talent, which I believe Ms Zhu has, but also her sense of timing.
