Hank Azaria Gives The Response We Needed For 'The Simpsons' Controversy

Hank Azaria

Hank Azaria truly deserves to be applauded for his response to the whole controversy of 'The Simpsons' character Apu Nahasapeemapetilon. He has been voicing the character for 28 years, and he's the only member of the show's family to give an acceptable response to the criticisms of racial stereotyping.

He appeared on 'The Late Show with Stephen Colbert' this week where he was asked to comment on the recent episode 'No Good Read Goes Unpunished'; a show which essentially saw the writers dismiss all the offensive issues of the character that were raised in the documentary 'The Problem with Apu'.

Who's Up For The Chop At 'The Simpsons' 'Yellow Wedding'?

Hank Azaria

As Game of Thrones fans will know (as well as pretty much anyone else with access to the internet) there have been a couple of fatal weddings in recent episodes of the HBO series. At the end of season 3 viewers were horrified by the outcome of the infamous Red Wedding, while many were shocked, if not upset, by the recent Purple Wedding.

The Simpsons Yellow Wedding Who will be killed off at The Yellow Wedding?

Ever current, and clearly not wanting to be left behind, The Simpsons writers have planned their very own homicidal nuptials, aptly named ‘The Yellow Wedding.’ Very clever, guys. The Simpsons recently recorded their lowest ever ratings since the show began back in 1989, so it seems as though they may be hoping a GoT style massacre may draw in the numbers. But who could be up for the chop in the upcoming Yellow Wedding?

Very Good

An unusual structure gives this biopic a surprising kick as it explores both sides of the porn industry: the glamour and the sleaze. Oscar-winning documentary filmmakers Epstein and Friedman (The Times of Harvey Milk) keep things so balanced that it sometimes feels a bit clinical, never letting us feel the intense emotions that gurgle throughout the story. But it's a strikingly well-made film with a terrific all-star cast.

It also cleverly looks like it was actually made in the early 1970s, the period in which it's set. This is when 21-year-old Linda Boreman (Seyfried) left the home of her harshly religious parents (Stone and Patrick) to live with her free-spirited boyfriend Chuck (Sarsgaard). By 1972 she was the most famous porn-star on earth, as the lead actress in the crossover adult movie Deep Throat. But the glamorous lifestyle covered a much darker reality: that the abusive Chuck forced her to make the film while selling her body to anyone willing to pay. And it took her several years to break free, tell her story and stand up against the industry that used her.

Cleverly, the film carefully lays out the male-dominated culture in the industry along with the jet-set high life before rewinding and showing us the gruesome underbelly. It's a bold gimmick that undermines the emotional momentum but forces us to examine our own perceptions. And it helps that the filmmakers recreate the period without much fussiness. Yes, there's a lot of big hair and groovy music, but it's never played for laughs. Everything centres on the characters, who are sharply well-played. Seyfried brings a terrific fragility to Linda, while Sarsgaard reveals Chuck's darkness in a complex way. The unrecognisable Stone is also excellent, while Patrick has the film's most moving moment.

The Smurfs 2 has failed to impress critics following its release in US cinemas on Sunday 28th July.

The Smurfs enemy from the first movie has returned, the wizard Gargamel (Hank Azaria), who wishing to capture the Smurfs' powers creates two Smurfs "Naughties" to infiltrate the Smurf clan. Smurfette (voiced by Katy Perry) becomes their victim as she holds a spell the Naughties desperately need. Set in Paris, as opposed to the first film's location of New York, The Smurfs 2 shows the Smurfs with a little help from their friends set off on a quest to rescue the innocent Smurfette. The film is set half in reality and half in the Smurf's animated world.

The first trailer for Rob Epstein and Jeffrey's Friedman's biopic of 1970's adult movie star Linda Lovelace has rolled out online. Lovelace, stars Les Miserables actress Amanda Seyfried in the lead role, with the excellent Peter Sarsgaard playing her sleazy and abusive husband Chuck Traynor.

Though the movie is set in the nostalgic era of sideburns, flower dresses, flares and sexual exploration, 'Lovelace' is a grimy film about the 'Deep Throat' star who became a battered, broken woman at the hands of a monster of a man.

Lovelace Trailer

Linda Lovelace was a hugely successful pornographic actress who hit global stardom with her 1972 hardcore film 'Deep Throat'. Although apparently happy, feisty and at ease on the surface, she suffered severe abuse and violence at the hands of her husband and manager Chuck Traynor who forced her into the sex industry at gunpoint; a stark contrast to her previous life, being well-known by her friends for keeping all her previous boyfriends at a good distance. While she apparently seemed to enjoy the highlife of national and international stardom, she made attempts to quit pornography to the anger of Traynor, who did everything he could to frighten her into submission. A vulnerable woman who spent her life being used, and who would go on to be a key figure in later anti-pornography movements.

Smurfs 2: I'm Too Smurfy - Clip

The Smurfs are back in a brilliant movie sequel that sees them take on evil magician Gargamel for a second time as he makes another attempt at harnessing the blue power of the Smurf people. This time, he has successfully created a group of similar creatures called Naughties, which he has plans to use to lure the impressionable Smurfette to him in order to finally win their potent magic. Aware of the kidnapping, the rest of the Smurfs band together on a rescue mission alongside their human acquaintances Patrick and Grace Winslow who agree to help them get to Smurfette and convince her that she belongs at home.

Right Said Fred, the nineties duo responsible for the number one 1991 hit 'I'm Too Sexy', has got involved in the promotions for the new film, marking the celebrations of Global Smurfs Day on June 22nd 2013, the day after 'The Smurfs 2' is released on the 21st. They have recorded a brand new track called 'I'm Too Smurfy', which isn't too dissimilar from their debut hit as you'd imagine, in a video featuring people in Smurf costumes getting funky and the duo painting their faces blue in honour of the Smurfs' return.

The Smurfs 2 Trailer

The Smurfs return following a harrowing experience lost in New York while being pursued by the evil wannabe wizard Gargamel in 'The Smurfs'. Their plight is not over, however, as Gargamel will stop at nothing to harness the power of the blue creatures. Currently an icon of sorcery in Paris, he creates two Smurf-like creatures called Naughties who he uses to tempt the impressionable Smurfette in a life of mischief as she holds the valuable secret of the spell to turn the Naughties into real Smurfs. After she is kidnapped, her family and friends embark on a mission to save her, whether she wants to be or not, and enlists the help of their human friends Patrick and Grace Winslow to take down Gargamel once and for all and lead Smurfette back on the straight and narrow.
