Gerard Butler

Biography

Gerard Butler (born 13.11.1969)

Gerard Butler is a Scottish actor who has appeared both on television and on the big screen, starring in films such as 'Phantom of the Opera' (2004), '300' (2007) and Guy Ritchie's RocknRolla (2008). Butler currently lives between London, Los Angeles and New York, and in 2008 launched his own production company 'Evil Twins' with his manager.

Gerard James Butler was born in Glasgow on 13th November 1969 and spent his first two years in Montreal, Canada. His parents, Margaret and Edward divorced when he was a child and he returned with his mother and elder siblings Lynn and Brian to Ralston in Paisley where he developed a love of acting and joined the Scottish Youth Theatre.

After graduating from Glasgow University Law School, Gerard found roles in Shakespeare's Coriolanus and as Ewan McGregor's character Renton in the stage version of Trainspotting. His first film appearance was in 'Mrs. Brown' with Judi Dench and Billy Connolly, followed by minor roles in 'Tomorrow Never Dies' (1997), 'Tale of the Mummy' (1998), and the British TV series The Young Person's Guide to Becoming a Rock Star.

2000 was Butler's breakthrough year for film. He was cast as Attila the Hun in the American TV film 'Attila', leading to a central role in Wes Craven's 'Dracula 2000'. Butler has found time to continue to appear in independent films, as well as the Hollywood blockbusters like 'Reign of Fire' (2002) featuring Christian Bale, and 'Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life' (2003) with Angelina Jolie.

In 2004, Butler gained international attention, taking the lead role in the film adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical 'The Phantom of the Opera'. Butler went on to play Beowulf, the Norse warrior, in 'Beowulf and Grendel' (2005), and co-starred in 'P.S. I Love You' (2007) with Hilary Swank. More starring roles followed: in 2007 Butler played Spartan King Leonidas in '300', which was based on the Frank Miller graphic novel and was a surprise box office hit, earning Butler the title of Action Star of the Year at the Taurus World Stunt Awards. Showcasing the range of his talents in 2008, Butler featured both in the family adventure 'Nim's Island' and the gangster film, 'RocknRolla'.

Entertainment Weekly rated Butler as the fifth 'Ultimate Male Hottie of All Time' and named him as one of the top 25 Entertainers of 2007.

We've been loyal fans of Gerry since Dracula 2000 and his other films,etc...We are members of his fan club based from his wonderful website called GB.net...I'm so proud to say that I am one of the lucky fans who received acknowledgement letters from Gerry. We still support and admire him because inspite of his successful career, he is still the same down-to-earth Gerry we knew. Gerry is a unique, multi-talented, and a caring person. I do not care what other people say negatively about him but I think this guy is very awesome, naturally good-looking and although he has aged a bit, he still got that sizzling charisma and sex appeal that girls like me are so crazy about. Please do not change Gerry..we love you just the way you are! I love you FOREVER and ever...mmmmwahhh(Kisses)!!

gerard butler is one of the most beautiful men i ahve ever seen in my entire life. I first saw him in Phantom Of the Opera and that was all i needed. He is a great singer,a good person and a gorgeous man **pitter patter**. Thank the Heavens above that he quit law!!! So, i say congrads, Gerry, because he has definately taken my breath away and in my opinion won the best actor award for me. and also a brilliant performance in dracula 2000, in both movies you can really feel every word he says. its like the character he plays is the character you become when you watch the movie. he is truly brilliant. and not only is he such a good actor but he is soo sexy... lol...*only the Lord knows what i would do to him...**(sigh)lol... well.. congrads to those who like him as well for a choice well made!well, im out!Melissa -XoX-sexcii_kisses69@hotmail.com

Oh ladies give me a break! Will God please kill me now? Trying very hard here not to puke after reading all of these ridiculous comments going on and on and ON pouring your love out to Gerry. He's a very good actor; yes I'll give him that. There are tons of good actors out there. He got lucky and got breaks, and that's good. LEAVE IT THERE. He probably has a dog that someone else takes care of, and poor thing occasionally gets a kick in its unassuming little ass by Gerry when the spotlight happens to NOT be on him for two minutes. Who knows and who cares? When's the last time Gerry posted an e-mail about his undying love for YOU? And how he craves to cuddle your huge cellulite-ridden thighs because he's so impressed with how you typed that letter for your boss today? And made two copies of? Then filed one. What you see on screen and in interviews is what actors and their agents and stylists want you to see. Most of them can't even fit their heads through the door. It's just a job. Enjoy the movies. But please girls, focus your energy on men you actually know and stop dreaming about pretty Gerry who I'd bet dump you in a second for some beautiful skinny bitch. But take my word for it - a smart skinny bitch. Gerry's not that dumb - someone has to hold the mirror for him and tie his laces . . .

Gerard James Butler is one of the "very few" men in this world who has a vast variety of talents. I have enjoyed each and every thing he has done in his career. From the short films, such as "Please!" to the present. He really seems to bring out the best in people around him. From what I hear from the people who have actually met this man, he is caring, attentive, polite, cheerful, funny, sexy and so very personable. If I ever had a chance to act with this man or even just to meet him, it would truly be an exhilarating experience. :) Jodie
