Example Biography

Example (born Elliot John Gleave, 20.06.1982)
Example is an English singer and rapper.

Example: Childhood
Example was born in Hammersmith, West London.
He attended a Primary School in Fulham and later enrolled at ADT College in Wandsworth.
He has a scar on his forehead from when he had a tumour removed as a child.
He studied film directing at Royal Holloway, University of London and earned money by MCing. He met his future producer Joseph Gardner who helped him with his first vinyl release 'A Pointless Song'.
After graduating, he worked in Australia on various films including 'Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith' in the props department. He was then an editor and voiceover on Paramount Comedy Channel and MTV Networks.

Example: Musical career
Example's name came from his initials 'E.G.' which could be an abbreviation for 'exempli gratia' or, as it is more commonly known, 'for example'.
He released his first three singles on his own label All The Chats which caught the attention of BBC Radio 1 and various labels including The Beats records who he signed with in 2006.
On that label he released single 'What We Made' from his debut album of the same name and filmed the video at the location of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. He also filmed a short documentary on the abandoned town of Pripyat.
He released singles 'You Can't Rap', 'I Don't Want To' and 'So Many Roads' for his debut album.
He then released his next single 'Me + Mandy' on his own label again in 2008 and also made his stand-up comedy debut for BBC2's 'The Culture Show' in the same year. For his show he performed in front of 60 people in Covent Garden and later ended up at the Lyric Hammersmith alongside Richard Herring, Phill Jupitus and Harry Hill.
He first hit the charts in 2009 with his single 'Watch the Sun Come Up' from his second album 'Won't Go Quietly' released through Data Records. The album reached number 4 on the UK chart.
In 2011, the first single from his third album, 'Changed the Way You Kiss Me' opened at number one in the UK as did second single 'Stay Awake'. The album, 'Playing in the Shadows' also topped the charts in the UK.
Example wrote 'Chasing The Sun' for British boyband The Wanted on their self-titled debut US album released in 2012. Later in 2012, he signed with Mercury records and announced his 13-date tour for 2013.

Example got engaged to model and actress Erin McNaught in 2012.
His uncle is former footballer Tony Grealish and he supports Fulham F.C.
