Embrace

Biography

Your reach should always exceed your grasp. Because otherwise, what's the point in reaching at all? They even wrote a song about it, back in the day, about aiming too far, setting your sights too high. Music isn't necessarily the be-all-and-end-all, not always. Sometimes it can be a trifling little nothing that just sounds good. But if a band is going to be your life, rather than a hobby or an interest or even a passion, then you need to project yourself, forwards and onwards and into improbable territories, areas you can't quite even imagine. You need to set yourself impossible goals. You need to tell yourselves and other people just how good you can be. How good you are. And the more garish and ridiculous these claims, the more you owe it not just to yourselves but also to the people who believed you, to try and reach them. Of course Embrace claimed a lot of things when they first emerged, ebullient and pugnacious, buoyed by the kind of press hype that causes devotion and revulsion in equal measure. They claimed so much that it seemed they couldn't hope to meet the expectations they created.
