Cher Lloyd was a contestant on the 2010 series of X Factor, which was judged by four mentors: Simon Cowell, Cheryl Cole, Dannii Minogue and Louis Walsh.
Cher Lloyd: Personal Life
Cher Lloyd is from Malvern, Worcestershire, where she lives with her parents, Darren and Dina Lloyd as well as her brother Josh and two sisters, Sophie and Rosie. Her mother's side of the family are Romany. In 2009, Cher studied performing arts at Dyson Perrins CE Sports College.
Before her successful X Factor auditioned, Cher Lloyd had applied twice before, singing ballads, but it was not until her 2010 audition, in which she performed Keri Hilson's version of 'Turn My Swag On' that she was successful in auditioning in front of the celebrity judges. Dannii Minogue was not present at Cher's audition; instead replaced by Natalie Imbruglia.
Cher Lloyd: X Factor & Beyond
Cher was one of the contestants selected to go through to the 'bootcamp' section of the show, where she sang a rap version of 'Viva La Vida'. She claimed to have written the rap lyrics herself but that was disputed by others who said they were written by the rapper Swizz Beatz.
At the next stage of the show, at the judges' houses, she was due to perform the song 'Cooler Than Me' but was unable to perform, as she had a throat infection. Her mentor, Cheryl Cole, still chose her to go through to the live show, despite these problems.
Cher Lloyd joined Treyc Cohen, Rebecca Ferguson and Katie Waissel in the girls' category. Louis Walsh mentored the over 25 category, which included Mary Byrne, Wagner, John Adeleye and Storm Lee. The Boys category was mentored by Dannii Minogue and featured Matt Cardle, Nicolo Festa, Paije Richardson and Aiden Grimshaw, whilst the groups were looked after by Simon Cowell and featured Diva Fever, FYD, Belle Amie and One Direction.
The songs performed by Cher in the live finals include 'Stay' by Shakespeare's Sister, 'Just Be Good To Me' by the SOS band, 'Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem)' by Jay-Z and 'Imagine' by John Lennon. In the seventh week, Cher Lloyd found herself in the bottom two, but the judges saved her over Paije. Making it through to the final show, she performed with will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas and also performed 'The Clapping Song' and 'Get Ur Freak On'. She was the first to be eliminated from the final, finishing in fourth place over all.
