Hailing from Houston, Texas, Chamillionaire's success has helped spark H-Town's commercial and artistic re-emergence on the rap scene. Chamillionaire has now joined Houston's hip-hop elite, including the new generation of rhyme-spitters such as Lil' Flip, Slim Thug, Mike Jones and Paul Wall, as well respected vets UGK and Scarface. Dubbed "the Mixtape Messiah," after independently selling over 100,000 copies of the "Get Ya Mind Correct" album, Chamillionaire arrived late as a major player during his city's 2005 takeover of mainstream rap. "The Sound of Revenge", released during November 2005, followed albums from Mike Jones, Slim Thug, and former Color Changin' Click partner Paul Wall, but he had already built a loyal following outside the South. Chamillionaire (born Hakeem Sediki) became known for his deep, versatile voice and lyrical dexterity. Originally part of Swishahouse, he switched to Paid in Full, where he and Paul Wall collaborated on 2002's Get Ya Mind Correct. "The Sound Of Revenge", which boasts a who's who of hip hop master producers including The Beat Bullies (Big Boi/Outkast), Cool & Dre (The Game), Scott Storch (50 Cent), David Banner, Mannie Fresh, is platinum, and looks set to be one of the biggest albums of the year Stateside.
