Casino Royale was the first James Bond novel by Ian Fleming and was also a 1967 "spoof" James Bond film starring David Niven and Peter Sellers.
Peter Sellers proves he still had it in his turn as, yes, James Bond, in the one 007 spoof ever made (unless you count that unintentional farce Never Say Never Again). But the three writers and five directors turned Royale into an unmitigated mess, sometimes funny but often drier than dust, totally random, and just plain silly when it should be sophisticated.
Casino Royale was recently re-made as a Bond Movie for the next century in 2006 starring Daniel Craig. Casino Royale marks GoldenEye director Martin Campbell's return to Bond's world and performs a succinct Ctrl-Alt-Delete on the flailing series. It strips Bond of his recyclable traits and reinvents him for the next generation. Royale adapts Ian Fleming's first Bond novel of the same name as it shuttles the character back to square one.
