Cameron Diaz is a popular American actress, possibly best known for her role in There's Something About Mary.

Cameron Diaz: Childhood

Cameron Diaz was born in San Diego, California, to Billie and Emilio Diaz. Her mother was an import / export agent and her father worked as a Field Gauger for an oil company. His family had moved to the USA from Spain, via Cuba. Cameron's mother is of English, Cherokee and German descent. Cameron has an older sister, Chimene.

As a teenager, Cameron Diaz attended Long Beach Polytechnic High School. The rapper Snoop Dogg was also a pupil at the school.

Cameron Diaz: Modelling Career

Cameron Diaz became a fashion model at the age of 16, when she signed up to Elite Model Management, one of the top agencies in the USA. The company is run by John Casablancas, father of Julian Casablancas, the lead singer of The Strokes. Diaz modelled for a number of big-name designers, including Calvin Klein and Levi's. In 1990, she was also pictured on the cover of Seventeen magazine.

Cameron Diaz: Acting Career

An agent from Elite met the producers of the film The Mask when they were searching for the female lead. Despite having no acting experience, Diaz auditioned for the role and when her audition was successful, she immediately started acting lessons. She starred in the film, alongside Jim Carrey and the movie became a huge global success.

Following the release of The Mask, Diaz landed a series of roles in small, independent films such as The Last Supper, which also starred Courtney B. Vance and Feeling Minnesota, which starred Keanu Reeves and Courtney Love. She also featured in She's The One along with Jennifer Aniston and Edward Burns.

Cameron's real foray into the mainstream came with her role in My Best Friend's Wedding, which also starred Julia Roberts and Rupert Everett. Following this was the Farrelly brothers' There's Something About Mary, which has become renowned for a scene in which Diaz places bodily fluids in her hair, mistakenly thinking that it is hair gel. Diaz was nominated for a Golden Globe for her role in the film, which also featured Ben Stiller, Matt Dillon and Lee Evans.

Diaz also gained a great deal of critical praise for her role in Being John Malkovich, a Spike Jonze film which starred John Cusack and, unsurprisingly, John Malkovich.

More hits came for Diaz, in the form of A Life Less Ordinary, the Danny Boyle film that starred Ewan McGregor, as well as the updated adaptation of Charlie's Angels, which starred Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu as her fellow Angels and Bill Murray as Charlie.

Cameron Diaz won a 2001 Golden Globe nomination for her role in Vanilla Sky, the Cameron Crowe film that also starred Tom Cruise, Penelope Cruz and Jason Lee. That same year, she provided the voice for the animated movie Shrek, which became a huge global phenomenon.

Diaz's next Golden Globe nomination came for her role in Martin Scorsese's Gangs of New York, the full-length epic that starred Daniel Day Lewis and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Cameron Diaz earned a reported $20 million for her role in Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle and following that release, she returned to Shrek 2 as well as appearing in the less successful In Her Shoes and The Holiday. In 2007, she also appeared in Shrek The Third. The film also featured Justin Timberlake, who she was dating at the time.

Cameron Diaz: Personal Life

Cameron Diaz suffers with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

Diaz dated the actor Matt Dillon, for three years until 1998. She was also once engaged to Jared Leto, but they broke up in 2002. She then went on to date Justin Timberlake, whom she met in 2003. They split officially in 2007.

In 2009, an announcement was made that Cameron Diaz is to have a star on the Hollywood walk of Fame.
