Anita Baker Biography
Anita Baker--multiple Grammy Award winner, composer, producer, mother and all-around superstar-- contemplated long and hard before she got ready to take her show on the road again. But finally, in early 2003, the woman who gave birth to "fireside love songs" and such classic gems as "Giving You The Best That I Got," "Just Because" and "Fairy Tales" pulled together her tight rhythm section and her faithful background singers and rehearsed; hoping to start a buzz and see if the timing was right, for a Welcome Back. She thought that her return would be like many singers, who, if gifted enough, have the opportunity to take a break and return to what they do best. Her "break" had now spanned 10 years and the tone and the texture of the industry had changed. The singers were young and flexible; many of the songs were trite and questionable. Anita wondered if she built it, would they come. And come they did, in droves. They came because most singers are not Anita Baker.

First and foremost, all praises to God for anointing a wonderful person (Miss Anita Baker) for such a blessed gift. A gift to reach out to people souls, hearts, and mind through song when she sings about love, the gift of love, the power of love, and the spirit of love. I admire a few singers. Singers who touch me through their lyrics. For some, the melody is what moves them, but as for me, it's the lyrics. When Anita sings, she talks to me. I can feel the story she's telling through her lyrics and I can understand, and relate. I could go on & on. Mere words can't express how much admiration I have for Miss Anita Baker. If I had to choose a word to describe her, it would be "Evangelist". She ministers to my soul about "Real Love". You know what a "Great" artist is? Someone's music that was a hit twenty years ago and is still a hit today. Anita Baker is one of the "Greatest" singers twenty years ago, today, and forever more. Anita, if you should ever read this, just stay true to yourself, be yourself, love yourself for who you are, stay true to your love for music, and most of all, continue to put God first. Hope to meet you someday and have the opportunity to sit front row, center stage at one of your concerts.God Bless..:) |
