Amanda Bynes is an American actress most famous for her Nickelodeon show 'The Amanda Show'.
Amanda Bynes: Childhood
Amanda Bynes was born in Thousand Oaks, California. Her parents are Lynn, a dental assistant, and Rick Bynes, a dentist.
Her father is Catholic but her mother is Jewish; she doesn't identify herself with a particular religion herself.
She attended private Catholic school La Reina High School for a while, but started at University Elementary before graduating from Thousand Oaks High School.
Amanda Bynes: Acting career
Amanda Bynes started acting as a child, appearing in a commercial for Buncha Crunch candies.
She has also appeared on stage in 'Annie', 'The Secret Garden', 'The Music Man' and 'The Sound of Music'.
She started her Nickelodeon career on 'Figure It Out' and 'All That' before landing her own sketch comedy show, 'The Amanda Show' in 1999.
Her first film role was in 2002's 'Big Fat Liar' with Frankie Muniz. The following year, she landed the leading role in 'What a Girl Wants' opposite Colin Firth and Kelly Preston.
In 2002, she began starring with Jennie Garth in the sitcom 'What I Like About You'.
In 2006, she appeared in the comedy 'She's the Man' alongside Channing Tatum and 'Love Wrecked'.
2007 saw her appear alongside Nikki Blonsky and John Travolta in 'Hairspray'.
In 2010, she was in the well-received teen comedy 'Easy A', opposite Emma Stone and Lisa Kudrow.
She has twice announced her retirement from acting, the most recent time in 2012 when she said she wanted to focus on a fashion career.

Amanda Bynes launched her own fashion line, Dear, in 2007 with Steve & Barry's though it went out of business in 2009.

She has been targeted by the media for some time due several instances of bizarre and irrational behaviour.
In 2012, she was stopped by police for using her cell phone while driving. In the same year, she was arrested and charged for driving under the influence. Later that year she was charged with hit-and-run and her driver's license was suspended. The hit-and-run charges were later dropped.
