Netflix Comedy 'When We First Met' Takes One Guy From Friend-Zone To End-Zone

Netflix Adam DeVine Alexandra Daddario

If you could relive a night over and over until you got the most perfect result regardless of the future consequences, would you go through with it? In 'When We First Met', it's certainly the ideal solution for one guy who's desperate to turn back the clocks and so his best friend that he's the man of her dreams.

You can't get away from the obvious fact that it's so similar to 'Groundhog Day', but rather than this being a lesson in being a good person and doing the right thing, 'When We First Met' is all about how things happen for a reason, and how changing the past may seem desirable, but you can never predict the future.

Baywatch Review

OK

Clearly, it's a risky proposition adapting a cheesy vintage TV series for the big screen: this is the second one that's gone awry this year, after CHiPs. But it doesn't have to be like this. Lively movie versions of Charlie's Angels and 21 Jump Street proved that with inventive writing, snarky performances and deranged energy, the result can be thoroughly entertaining. Sadly, this movie falls back on cheap jokes that simply aren't that funny. Fans of Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron will still have a good time - they're both unstoppably engaging - but the truth is that this simply isn't good enough.

We're back in Emerald Bay, where the beefy hotshot Mitch (Johnson) heads up the lifeguard crew with babes Stephanie and CJ (Ildenesh Hadera and Kelly Rohrbach). And now they're training up three new recruits: fallen Olympic swimming champ Matt (Efron), feisty hottie Summer (Alexandra Daddario) and pudgy geek Ronnie (Jon Bass). Meanwhile, as various crimes and calamities strike the beach, Mitch decides to investigate everything himself without the help of the local police. And as he becomes convinced that resort owner Victoria (Priyanka Chopra) is involved in bribery, extortion, drug running and murder, he sends his lifeguards undercover to catch her. Which of course is just a bit beyond what they were trained to do.

Alexandra Daddario: Zac Efron Is An 'Intelligent Actor'

Alexandra Daddario Zac Efron

A lot goes into acting as a profession, so when an actor gets the chance to work with someone who's particularly generous with their skill, it can be truly exciting. For Alexandra Daddario, working with Zac Efron on Seth Gordon's 'Baywatch' comedy was just that.

Zac Efron, Dwayne Johnson and Alexandra Daddario stars in 'Baywatch'Zac Efron, Dwayne Johnson and Alexandra Daddario star in 'Baywatch'

Alexandra plays the tough girl Summer Quinn, who also happens to be an awesome surfer and super brainy - quite apart from Zac Efron's tearaway character Matt Brody, who's only on the team as a punishment for his illegal behaviour while he was on the Olympic swim team. However, in real life he's actually pretty smart.

How would you feel if you were enjoying a spa treatment and discovered that your masseuse was your favourite actor? One superfan got one such surprise as she prepared to go to the premiere of 'Baywatch' and was left astonished when Zac Efron and Alexandra Daddario walked into her room.

The actors were in Sydney, Australia promoting the upcoming movie which is out this week. They were doing an interview on a show called 'Fitzy and Wippa' when they were told that a special evening had been set up for a superfan who was staying in the hotel they were at. The show were sending her to the premiere, but as an extra treat they had arranged a surprise meet and greet.

Baywatch - Trailer and Clips

There is no better lifeguard team out there than that of Los Angeles' Baywatch. However, they are seriously losing money and in order to boost their brand, a PR executive encourages them to get some fresh blood on the team. Matt Brody may have landed two gold medals in the field, but that doesn't guarantee he'll be right for the squad. He's far from an impressive addition in the eyes of Mitch Buchanan; he may be prettier, but he hasn't got the brains or the brawn to match up to him. Matt thinks the job is just about educating people on sunburn and stopping them from drowning, but when it becomes clear that there's a drug ring in the area and a body subsequently washes up on the beach, their job gets a whole lot more complicated. Yeah, they should probably leave it to the police, but instead they decide on an unauthorised undercover sting operation instead. Maybe thrill-seeking Matt can teach Mitch and the team a thing or two about living life on the edge. Or maybe he'll just run like hell.

San Andreas Review

OK

Set up as an old-style disaster movie with only a fraction of the plot, this earthquake action adventure is preposterous enough to just about work as a guilty pleasure. Everything else about the film is simply absurd, from the fake science to the simplistic family dynamic that strains to hold the story together. But it's definitely a big-screen spectacle, and Dwayne Johnson was made to fill the big screen.

He plays Los Angeles Fire & Rescue chopper pilot Ray, who is going through a divorce from Emma (Carla Gugino) after the death of his young daughter. Now his older daughter Blake (Alexandra Daddario) needs help moving up the coast, but Ray has been called to respond to a freak quake in Nevada. So she travels instead to San Francisco with her mother's millionaire boyfriend (Ioan Gruffudd). Then jittery Cal Tech scientist Lawrence (Paul Giamatti) works out that this temblor is heading for L.A. and will move up the coast to San Francisco, perhaps creating the biggest seismic event the world has ever seen. As he issues urgent warnings, Ray rescues Emma from a collapsing L.A. skyscraper, and they both head north to save their daughter. Meanwhile, Blake has teamed up with sexy Brit Ben (Hugo Johnstone-Burt) and his perky little brother Ollie (Art Parkinson) to survive the chaos in San Francisco.

Despite the filmmakers' stated goal to recreate a classic disaster epic like The Poseidon Adventure (1972) or Earthquake (1974), this film doesn't bother to feature an ensemble cast with complex intertwined storylines. Instead, it heaps all of the drama onto Johnson's beefy shoulders. He has more than enough charisma to hold it together, even if his one big emotional scene feels a bit, well, stony. Everyone else provides a masterclass in panic-stricken acting, running and screaming and fearing for everyone's lives even though it's clear from the start that very few characters will die. Hundreds of thousands of anonymous digitally rendered victims perish, but the movie doesn't bat an eyelid about them.

California is well-known for playing host to regular earthquakes, being located right on top of the San Andreas fault; in other words, the tectonic plate boundary that separates the Pacific and the North American Plates. However, rarely have earthquakes been seen that have reduced whole cites to rubble, caused huge chasms in the Earth and deadly tidal waves through streets killing thousands of people. The only option for residents is to get as far away as possible, though with such a huge disaster ripping through the state, this one is still going to have an effect on the other side of the country. Meanwhile, chopper pilot Ray and his estranged wife are desperate to find their missing daughter Blake first, and use a Fire Department rescue helicopter to search high and low throughout the state.

Wonder Woman Movie: Who Do You Want For The Leotard And Lasso?

Wonder Woman Jaimie Alexander Gina Carano Amber Heard Alice Eve Katy Perry Rosario Dawson Jennifer Lawrence Rachel McAdams Juno Temple Rachel Bilson Hayden Panettiere Megan Fox Allison Williams Alexandra Daddario

Following Christopher Nolan's 'Dark Knight' trilogy and the recent Superman epic 'Man Of Steel', there seems to be one obvious direction to go in next for DC Comics with their film franchises: a Wonder Woman movie, of course. The Amazonian knockout was first portrayed successfully by Lynda Carter in the TV series between 1975 and 1979, and it hasn't yet been put to cinema neither as a solo project for the character nor as a Justice League of America set-up. There have been all sorts of rumours flying about recently with Jaimie Alexander talking a lot about the supposed upcoming Wonder Woman movie and we've got pretty excited discussing who might be considered for the role.

So, who do we think would do the Wonder Woman costume 'justice'?

Jaimie AlexanderJaimie Alexander: The 'Thor' actress has set tongues wagging as she gushed about the character in an interview with Forbes. 'I would love for DC to put Wonder Woman in one of their upcoming flicks, either in her own movie or Batman vs. Superman, or just something even to introduce her', she said. Batman vs. Superman, hmm? Does she know something we don't? On the suggestion that she could be the one to play her, she insisted, 'I'm appreciative to the people who ask my opinion of the character, and that's been pretty amazing.' Jaimie would be perfect for the role given her portrayal of Asgardian strong-woman Sif in the 'Thor' movies, and she even bears an interesting resemblance to Lucy Lawless as 90s TV hero Xena, Warrior Princess.

Percy Jackson: Sea Of Monsters Review

Good

There can't have been a very big demand for a sequel to 2010's The Lightning Thief, but at least this is another adequate adventure for the teen demigods. Much more child-friendly than the first movie, this episode is essentially just a series of heavily animated action set-pieces strung together by the flimsiest of plots. At least it has a sense of energy and some jagged humour to keep grown-ups engaged.

At Half-blood Camp, the refuge for the children of gods with mortals, Percy (Lerman) continues his rivalry with hot-shot Clarisse (Rambin). And when the protective barrier around the camp is poisoned, it's Clarisse who leads a mission to find the healing Golden Fleece in the Sea of Monsters. But Percy knows that he's the subject of a prophecy about the fleece being used to resurrect the destructive Chronos, and that his nemesis Luke (Abel) is up to something evil. So Percy takes his friends Grover and Annabeth (Jackson and Daddario), plus his newly discovered cyclops half-brother Tyson (Smith), and heads off on his own quest.

Despite a few close calls in which characters come close to death, we're pretty sure nothing nasty will happen to these young franchise characters. But director Freudenthal (Diary of a Wimpy Kid) never hangs around long enough for us to realise that there isn't actually any suspense or intrigue in the plot. The film's pace is frantic, as the characters bolt from one crazy scenario to the next, often without bothering to logically connect the two. Several scenes could be cut without changing the story, while others are pure indulgence, such as Fillion's extended cameo as Luke's parcel-delivering father Hermes.
