Triumphant Homecoming Tour Continues For The Hives (Pictures)

The Hives playing in Gothenburg

The Hives stormed home soil in Gothenburg on Friday (January 25, 2013)

The Hives have gone from being cool to uncool and back to cool again so many times that it's hard to keep track of the Swedish party punk group's profile; at the moment though it seems like Pelle Enqvist and his madcap charges are very much enjoying a renaissance, with the group receiving plaudits all over the shop for their recent jaunt to the UK at the end of last year. Back in their native Sweden on Friday night (January 25, 2013), it looked like the boys were more than happy to be honest, electrifying a packed crowd with a set that drew from their entire career.

The Hives have been touring in support of their latest album, last year's Lex Hives

Compared to their usually pretty full-on live schedule, the Swedes have been relatively relaxed in the studio; last year's Lex Hives was only their fifth album in 15 years, but you can perhaps see why the group prefer treading the boards instead, the band clearly feeding off the frenzied reaction they received. The band have a busy spring on their hands, and have already managed to make it across to Australia this year. They looked fit and full of energy at the weekend though, vocalist Pelle as ever holding the crowd in the palm of his hands.

The Hives are touring well into the spring

The group have never quite matched the global success of the tracks that made up their compilation album You're New Favourite Band, in 2001. However, each subsequent album has still managed to retain a foothold in the US Billboard charts, with 2012's Lex Hives reaching number 84.
