Alien Robots Use Earth as Their Battlefield in 'Transformers 4: Age of Extinction' [Trailer + Pictures]
Mark Wahlberg steps in to play Cade Yeager, a working class mechanic who just happens to stumble across Optimus Prime.
With all that Oscars nonsense out of the way, it’s time to focus on explosions, Mark Wahlberg and massive robots. Luckily,Transformers 4: Age of Extinctionis basically made up of those three things; showcased by the film’s brand new and shiny trailer, which you can watch below.
Transformers 4: Age of Extinction sees Mark Wahlberg step in as 'the main guy'
Marky Mark’s doing what he does best: playing a working class underdog. This time he’s Cade Yeager, a Texas-based mechanic whose business is failing, forcing him to forage for scrap materials to sell on and put his young daughter through college. When he finds a beaten up old truck, though, he inadvertently incurs the wrath of the U.S government. Optimus Prime is in his garage, but not for long.
The trailer also heralds the arrival of the Dinobots onto the big screen, as we see the first Autobot v Dinobot fight. Of course, that’s the most ridiculous sentence every written, but the Transformers films have never claimed to be anything but. In terms of specific bot characters, Strafe (two-headed pterodactyl) and Grimlock (t-rex) are coming in on the dinobots side, with Crosshairs (the green parachuting bot) coming in for the autobots.
Michael Bay has let loose with this, the fourth Transformers film. With a seemingly unlimited budget and a leading star in Wahlberg worthy of the blockbuster name, his last jaunt into the alien robot franchise will go out with a bang; whether the critics will agree is another story, but money will be made.
“Here’s the thing,” Bay explained in a 2012 interview with Hero Complex about leaving the Transformers films behind. “It’s tough to find someone who’s done these kind of movies, and to have the complication of creating the new stuff that needs to be in this movie — not just characters but a new type of action, I hope — and that’s a lot for someone new to bite off. And so after this one I will leave it in the best hands possible. That’s the plan.”
Nicola Peltz in Tranformers
Shia LaBeouf is no longer involved; the ‘no-longer-famous’ Hollywood star, who has been trying to make various statements over the last few months via paper bags, Eric Cantona quotes and art installations isn’t one for the popcorn action movies any more, giving way for the immensely popcorn-action-orientated Walhberg to step into the fray, and probably take the franchise for himself.
Starring Nicola Peltz, Jack Reynor, Li Bingbing, T.J. Miller, Stanley Tucci and Kelsey Grammer, Tranformers 4: Age of Extinction is due to be released on June 27 in the U.S. The U.K will get their hands on the robot epic on July 10.
