Oscars 2013: Jennifer Lawrence, Anne Hathaway And Jessica Chastain Among Best Dressed (Pictures)

Yeah sure, so winning The Oscars is pretty important, but don't kid yourself too much, it's what people are wearing on the Oscars red carpet that really interests the punters. This year's awards saw relatively few fashion mishaps, though on the other hand also lacked anyone really taking a chance with their outfit - understandable, perhaps, given the scale of the public platform they were all appearing on.

Jennifer Lawrence won the best actress in a leading role Oscar, for Silver Linings Playbook, and she also won a fair share of the spoils in the outfit stakes; the star had been debating in public at what she was going to wear to the event this year, and disappointed no one in this beautiful strapless gown. Jennifer being Jennifer, though, she couldn't resist a bit of youthful exuberance, as this one-fingered salute all too clearly illustrates!

Anne Hathaway took the best supporting actress Oscar

Anne Hathaway has been knocking them dead all awards season and so there was no reason to expect anything other than the same result last night in Hollywood. True to form the winner of the best supporting actress award, for Les Miserables, looked stunning in this pastel pink Dior gown.

Though she might have been pipped by Lawrence in the best leading actress category, Zero Dark Thirty's Jessica Chastain proved that she was her rival's equal when it came to Oscar gowns. Wearing a strapless Armani Prive dress which matched her fair features, Chastain looked divine; her evening's story had a twist of sadness, however, as it was revealed that she'd missed the funeral of her biological father in order to attend the ceremony. For Adele, meanwhile, wearing a slightly frumpy looking dark gown, it was a case of more of the same; the British singer simply doesn't know how to fail, and her Oscar for best original song, for 'Skyfall', was yet another accolade to put down on the list.

Pick of the gents meanwhile were Ben Affleck and George Clooney - when aren't they? - and Django Unchained actor Christoph Waltz. For Affleck it was a story of redemption complete after he saw his film Argo take best picture on the night, to fully make up for the disappointment of him missing out on the best director shortlist. He stood up to collect the statuette with Argo producer and good friend George Clooney, who seems to only get better with age. Waltz meanwhile looked dashing in his blue tuxedo, and there's no denying his supporting actor nod was deserved too.

Of the rest of the star-studded line-up? Stacy Keibler once again turned heads, George Clooney's partner and former WWE wrestling star looking beautiful in a silver gown with bead detailing, that accentuated her enviable figure. Jennifer Aniston is another to be relied on the red carpet, and despite being in red herself, it was once again another thumbs up outfit from the former Friends star in her Valentino ball gown. Another to rarely slip up is Charlize Theron, and her short hair is more becoming of her by the week; there was plenty more to admire about her look too, however, with a dazzling pale gown - which, as you might have guessed by now, was something of a trend on Oscars night.
