'The Hunger Games' Truly Catches Fire With New Footage, New Cast [Trailer + Pictures]

The Hunger Games at Comic Con gave fans a chance to catch a glimpse of the new cast, but most importantly, it marked the release of the new trailer so we can finally take a proper look at the second instalment of the thrilling trilogy. Check it out below (right at the bottom).

Based on the novels of Suzanne Collins, the trilogy consists of The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay. It tells the story of 16-year-old Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) who takes the place of her younger sister Prim in the 74th Hunger Games – a form of entertainment for the Capitol, which sees contestants fight to the death.

Fans of the series have been speculating for months about the second movie and many travelled on over to Comic Con in San Diego last weekend where cast and crew have been talking about the sequel.

As you can imagine, the scenes for Lawrence are intense, all-action affairs, but for the Silver Linings Playbook actress – for which she won Best Actress at The Oscars – just running proves to be the most difficult thing to do. “The hardest stunt is probably still just basic running.," she said, adding that she runs "weird" and added that she had a running coach for the film. "Running and trying not to hit myself in the face with my bow, those were my two greatest challenges," she joked. (Via CBS)

Often compared to Battle Royale – the Japanese novel that features a similar formula – The Hunger Games capitalised on a young adult market craving teenage angst in an unfamiliar yet accessible environment. Twilight and Harry Potter have both now come to an end, and Lawrence and co look set to take over the box office mantle from those book-to-movie juggernauts.

Like the books, which managed to surpass Harry Potter in the sales figures according to Amazon, the cinematic version has been immensely popular. The Hunger Games, released in 2012, garnered an impressive ‘certified fresh’ rating of 85% on Rotten Tomatoes and grossed over $686m internationally, and with the books only growing in stature, the follow up film is set to build upon that success.
