After months of rumors, speculation and a whole lot of nothing from Jj Abrams’s we were admittedly taken aback when the Star Wars Episode VII cast was officially unveiled yesterday. Alongside original stars Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker, Star Wars Episode VII will add seven new faces to the franchise. John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow have all been announced as joining the Star Wars cast, but sadly that’s where news ends as we don’t yet know who any of these actors will be playing. So armed with a leaked casting call list, lets try and work out who might be playing who in Episode VII.

Oscar IsaacOscar Isaac Is Set For Star Wars Episode 7

'Girls' actor Adam Driver was one of the early names we’d pretty much pegged as a definite for the Episode VII cast. As of now the general consensus seems to be that Driver will be having a villainous turn in Episode VII. More specifically his character is thought to be an intelligent and scheming Sith. Thirty year old Driver could fit the decryption of either the confident late twenty something male that producers were looking for, or the intellectual thirtysomething. Then there’s Oscar Issac, the 35 year old actor best known for Inside Llewyn Davis, was the last and ultimately correct casting rumour. Character actor Oscar is one who has definitely got us stumped, really he could turn his hand to any type of character, wether it be hero or villain. It will surely be interesting to see which role Issac is eventually announced in.

The relatively unknown John Boyega seems to be a certain as one of the male leads, most likely a hero rather than a villain. At 22, Boyega could easily fit the description of “young twenty-something male, witty and smart, fit but not traditionally good looking.” Whatever this role will entail, we’re not sure, but he could be a friend for the young Skywalker or a love interest for Hans and Leia’s daughter. Speaking of Hans and Leia’s daughter, could that be the role Daisy Ridley has been cast in? In the leaked role call there were only two female roles listed and Daisy is the only new female cast member to be announced. Both descriptions called for “a young female in her late teens” with one described as “tough, smart and fit” and the other as “independent with a good sense of humour.” What is interesting is that if you look at the released picture Daisy is sitting in between Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford. Does that mean she could be their daughter or is it just a coincidence? Hmm we’re thinking Abrams doesn't do much for no reason.

Andy SerkisAndy Serkis has joined the Star Wars Episode VII cast

Then there’s the amazing Andy Serkis who could literally be anything from a straight up relatively normal looking character to an alien being using CGI. With Serkis’s talent the possibilities are endless. Also announced was Harry Potter actor Domhnall Gleeson and this one has us pretty stumped too. For many Gleeson’s inclusion is the most surprising, though he does have sci-fi experience, having starred in 2012’s Dredd.

More: Why we're excited for Max von Sydow

Maybe the one announcement that got us the most excited was that of veteran actor Max von Sydow, who is undoubtedly playing a villain, he just has to be. In the leaked casting call descriptions there was the part of a “seventy-something male, with strong opinions and tough demeanour,” which sounds like a perfect fit for von Sydow. All we can say is that out of all the actors announced von Sydow is the one we can imagine bringing the most to the franchise.

Of course right now it’s all just speculation and guess work until the actual character announcements have been made. As for when that will happen. Well they have to give us something on May 4th, haven’t they?
