Comedian Russell Brand, who isn't exactly known for his child friendly material, made a surprising announcement yesterday - he’s writing a children’s book. The funnyman confirmed, by way of a Youtube video that Russell Brand’s Trickster Tales will be released in November by Cannongate books. While some thought it was a joke a first, it seems no...this one is really happening. But what should we expect from a children’s book written by the notorious Russell Brand?

Russell BrandRussell Brand will unleash his Trickster Tales in November

Stand up comedian, actor, writer, political thinker (that last one’s debatable), Russell Brand certainly likes to keep himself busy. Now his latest endeavour seems to be following in the footsteps of fellow comedians Ricky Gervais and David Walliams into the world of children’s literature. Entitled Trickster Tales, Brand will be reinterpreting classic fairy stories for a new generation. In the video posted by Cannongate on Youtube, Brand unveiled the first tale he’ll be tacking is The Pied Piper of Hamelin, saying ‘I know you've already heard of that, and you might think 'well, that ain't your story', but I've done a different version of it.’ Brand also said he believes fairy tales are ‘the code to unlock aspects of our consciousness and to affect and impact the way we see the world,’ adding, ‘once we start changing the way children see the world, oh we can do all sorts of stuff’.

This, of course, will not be the first Brand penned book to hit our selves. The comedian made his writing debut in 2007 with his autobiography, My Booky Wook, which oddly has a more juvenile title then his upcoming children’s work (though actually its a tribute to Clockwork Orange). The book chronicled Brand’s problems with drug addiction and eating disorders before he turned his life around. Critically it was well received and it went on to be named biography of the year the 2008 British Book Awards and become a best seller in Britain.

Russell BrandBrand has so far released two autobiographies

My Booky Wook’s success led to Brand being given a a £1.8 million two-book deal with HarperCollins in June 2008. The first release Articles of Faith, was a collection of the comedian’s articles for the Guardian newspaper between 2007 and 2008. Brand has been writing for the newspaper since 2006 and his article topics range from his political philosophies to his musings on his beloved West Ham United football club. A second autobiography My Booky Wook 2: This Time It's Personal debuted in 2010 and followed his life since achieving world wide fame. Inside he opened up about the much publicised Sachsgate scandal as well as his relationship with then fiancee and now ex wife, Katy Perry, whom the book was dedicated too.
