New York Fashion Week 2014: What To Watch Out For

New York Fashion Week is finally here! The biggest names in the fashion world are all cramming into the Big Apple in order to see and be seen at fashion’s biggest event. So here's what you need to be looking out for over the next week in New York.

The Front Row
The FROW at fashion week is always the best indication of who’s on top in the fashion world. Of course, seats are always reserved for the likes of Anna Wintour, but which celebrities will be sitting by her side? Hard to tell but maybe Kim Kardashian and Kanye West will finally get their wish and land Kim a Vogue cover in the process.

The Emerging Designers to Watch
There is plenty of new blood to watch out for at this year’s fashion week. Spain based label Maria ke Fisherman will be making its debut, hopefully showcasing more of their knits as championed by Miley Cyrus. Australian designer Dion Le is also set to make a big splash as is 26-year old Korean Kathleen Kye.

The Veteran Designers 
Veterans seem to be celebrating anniversaries this season with Diane von Furstenberg, continuing her 40 years of the wrap dress celebration and Donna Karan celebrating the 30th anniversary of her brand with her runway show on Monday.

The Models
There’s been controversy in past years over the lack of diversity with NYFW models, however this is all set to change. It seems last year’s challenge by the Diversity Coalition has worked and we're expecting more of a representation of different ethnicities and also more plus-sized models on the runway.

The Locations
The official hub of fashion week is still The Lincoln Centre, but many designers are choosing to host their show elsewhere. None more controversially than Alexander Wang who is asking all his fashionista followers to join him in Brooklyn for his show at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. For those worried about how to get there, the designer’s given you no excuses, including driving directions for getting to the venue with his invites.

Marc Jacobs
Marc Jacob’s show will be his first since stepping down as Louis Vuitton’s creative director. With Mark now able to give all his attention to his namesake brand we can only expect bigger and better shows from the designer. He’s already announced a strange new gimmick to promote his fragrances, launching a pop-up shop during Fashion Week where transactions will be based solely on a customer’s use of Twitter, Instagram and Facebook with the hashtag #MJDaisyChain.

Also Look Out For:
Celebrity fashion week favourite Sarah Jessica Parker takes a leap on the other side of the catwalk, showing off her collaboration with shoe legends Manolo Blahnik. There’s also the debut of Stuart Vevers in his new role as creative director of leather goods brand Coach.
