Jurassic Park 4, or 'Jurassic World': What We Know So Far

It’s been twelve years since we last delved into the prehistoric world of ‘Jurassic Park’ but now more details are emerging on the fourth film ‘Jurassic World’.

The most recent major revelation, courtesy of director Colin Trevorrow’s twitter, is that shooting on ‘Jurassic World’ will begin this April. The director tweeted, “Honoured to be working with cinematographer John Schwartzman on Jurassic World, shooting this April on 35mm and 65mm film. @Kodak @Panavision.” It’s also worth noting the directors decision to use 35mm and 65mm film instead of digital.

The casting of ‘Jurassic World’ also seems to be coming together with Chris Pratt confirmed to take the lead role. The actor who is lending his voice to the upcoming ‘Lego Movie’ and is also starring in ‘Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy’, will play Owen, whom director Colin Trevorrow has described as a “rugged, ex-military type.” Also cast is ‘Twilight’s’ Bryce Dallas Howard, who was the first cast member to be confirmed. Howard is set to play a corporate scientist who understands dinosaurs better than her predecessors. Child actor Ty Simpkins, last seen in 'Iron Man 3', has also been confirmed and is thought to be playing Howard’s nephew.

Details about the plot are still being kept under wraps, however, but we do know a little bit about the story. Originally it was rumored that this would be a reboot of the whole 'Jurassic Park' series. However it was later revealed by Tevorrow that the film will take place 22 years after the original ‘Jurassic Park’ film. The director took to Twitter to tell fans, “'this is a new sci-fi terror adventure set 22 years after the horrific events of Jurassic Park.’' We also know that  the film will take place on Isla Nublar and not Isla Sorna (better known as “Site B”), where the second and third movies were set. The piece of information that has got fans most excited, however, came from palaeontology consultant Jack Horner who told USA Today last April that this film will include a new dinosaur villain.  "I can't actually tell you who that will be… ", he said, "but you'll want to keep the lights on after you see this movie." Tevorrow further confirmed a new dinosaur by saying “We have a new one that’s pretty cool. I’m not going to tell you anything about it, but… it’s pretty badass,” in an interview on a 'Jurassic Park' podcast in August.

There's still a lot more to emerge regarding 'Jurassic World', but one thing we do know is that not everyone may be as excited about another 'Jurassic Park' movie, something director Trevorrow is well aware of. The director told fans in a podcast, “there’s a lot of people who just couldn’t care less and need me to make a solid case for why the hell there’s a Jurassic Park 4 in the first place and I want to make a movie for them too.” That acknowledgment from the director should make fans happier, in the hope that it means the new film will restore the franchise and bring back dinosaurs for a whole new generation.

‘Jurassic World’ is scheduled to be released on June 12th 2015 in both 2D and 3D.
