What’s the verdict on Dwayne Johnson’s latest action packed offering?
Dwayne Johnson roars into theatres this weekend as Hercules, the mythical hero who’s been given a Brett Ratner update. Aside from Johnson, Hercules has been packed pretty tight with ‘serious’ British talent such as Rufus Sewell and John Hurt. But is it enough to ensure victory for Hercules at the box office? Here’s a taste of what the critics are saying to help you make up your mind.
Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and Brett Ratner presents the 'real' story of Hercules.
“The mythical Greek strongman gets a refreshingly human spin in Brett Ratner's grandly scaled, solidly entertaining popcorn pic.” Scott Foundas, Variety
“With Hercules, Brett Ratner and Dwayne Johnson are out to entertain you — no more, no less. And that is just what they do.” Dan Jolin, Empire
“By the beard of Zeus! Brett Ratner delivers fast, fun thrills to score a sound victory over Renny Harlin’s laborious The Legend Of Hercules.” Jamie Graham, Total Film

“One secret Rattner refuses to divulge is whether this is a full-on spoof or whether he is actually making the film in deadly earnest.” Geoffrey McNabb, The Independent
“A stylishly made - if rather familiar - action-adventure that will keep fans of swords-and-sandals films more than happy.” Mark Adams, Screen International
“Strap on your swordbelt, buckle your sandals and oil up your rippling six-pack, because here comes yet another interminable, CGI-drenched mythic mish-mash with far more money than brain cells.” Tom Huddleston, Time Out
