4 Reasons Why You Should Go See 'Transformers: Age of Extinction’ This Weekend
The reviews aren't pretty but the latest Transformers offering may still be worth a trip to the cinema this weekend.
It may hold a shockingly bad 17% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but Transformers: Age of Extinction, the franchise’s fourth instalment is making some serious money in both the US and China. But this weekend (July 4th), UK fans will get to judge Michael Bay’s latest offering for themselves, as the movie opens in cinemas nationwide. While the reviews might be making you want to avoid this one at all costs, is Transformers: Age of Extinction really all that bad? Probably, but still, here’s four reasons why you should head off to see it this weekend.
Mark Wahlberg is here to save the day!
1. The special effects are awesome
Lets give Michael Bay his dues, he certainly knows a thing or two about making stuff go bang. As much as Transformers: Age of Extinction is totally overblown and sacrifices story telling in order to get in many explosions in as possible, at least they’re done well. The special effects are undoubtedly the best part of the movie, the problem is, there’s just too many of them. Still, at least during the first few explosions you will find yourself suitably impressed, even if the excitement wears off after a while.
2. Mark Wahlberg
If you’re in the mood for a Mark Wahlberg movie then Transformers: Age of Extinction will probably never be your first choice. Still this weekend its your only choice and really Wahlberg still manages to be likeable even when working will the weakest possible script. Among all the explosions and nonsensical rubbish, every once in a while you may just find yourself saying “hey there’s Mark Wahlberg again, what a cool guy.” Plus, at least it’s not Shia LaBeouf.
3. Grimlock and the Dinobots!
Finally Transformers fan get to witness Grimlock and his gang tear up the big screen as they make their feature film debut. Thankfully they don’t disappoint. Seeing Grimlock and the rest of the Dinobots might just be worth the ticket price alone. They look as awe inspiring as fans had hoped for as they go on an epic rampage that’ll leave you wanting more robot dinosaur action. The only problem is, you’ve got to wait a long time before they make an appearance, like seriously, you may have forgotten about them before they even arrive.
Ooh and Optimus Prime is in it too
4. So bad it’s good?
Yes, on the whole Transformers: Age of Extinction is a pretty terrible movie. But it also might just be one of those films that’s so bad it crosses into the ‘actually good’ territory. If you’re willing to check your brain at the door and allow Michael Bay to indulge every single one of his explosion fantasies for over two and a half hours, then you might actually enjoy it. Plus it’s the weekend and what better time is there to sit back and forget about everything while watching a mindless piece of action nonsense? Really despite everything, you might actually really enjoy Transformers: Age of Extinction, you’ll just never know unless you’ll try. Mark Wahlberg plus a load of explosions and some cool looking robots? There are worse things you could be watching.
