Cory Monteith's Final Film Project, 'McCanick', To Premiere At Toronto Film Festival

Cory Monteith's final film McCanick is due to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 9th. In one of his final roles, Monteith plays Simon Weeks a drug addict and recently released prisoner. According to reports by MTV, Weeks is suspected of a murder he committed whilst in his teens, he is tracked down by two detectives: Eugene 'Mack' McCanick (David Morse) and Floyd Intrator (Mike Vogel).

The trailer suggests Monteith's character is likely innocent of the suspected crime. One character warns the irritable McCanick "he's done bad things but he is not a killer", whilst the detective retorts "you don't know him as well as you think." This could be a red herring in itself, but we shall have to wait and see!

Monteith looks distinctly unlike his usual clean and wholesome Glee self, sporting long hair and an unwashed look. The film looks to involve high drama with the occasional fight, possibly a car chase and some gun crime.

McCanick star Morse is best known for his roles in such films as The Green Mile and Disturbia. Co-star Vogel has appeared recently in TV series such as Bates Motel, Under the Dome and Pan Am. Vogel has also appeared in such films as The Help and Cloverfield.

In supporting roles are Rachel Nichols (Star Trek); Ciaran Hinds (The Woman in Black) and Tracie Thoms (Looper). The film is directed by Josh C. Waller, a relatively up-and-coming director, he is better known for his role as a producer on such films as the horror Raze, starring Rachel Nichols and renowned stunt double Zoe Bell (Death Proof).

Monteith died tragically at the age on 31. He was found unconscious in his Vancouver hotel room on July 13th after taking a lethal mix of alcohol and heroin. His death shocked his close friends and colleagues on Glee, as well as the show's fans. Monteith played Finn Hudson, the lovable but easily duped quarterback. A special Glee episode in honour of the late actor has been scheduled to air on 10th October 2013.

McCanick is one of Monteith's final projects; the other film Monteith starred in is entitled All the Wrong Reasons. The drama, which tells the story of four people following a shared trauma, is also due to be shown at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 13th. No information is available on international release dates for the films.
