Alex Band Abducted In Michigan: 'The Calling' Frontman Injured But Safe

Alex Band was abducted whilst walking on a Michigan street. Band, the lead singer of rock band The Calling, was abducted, beaten and left on railway tracks. He was walking back to his hotel on Sunday (18th August) from a mini-market. He was, with the other members of The Calling, in Lapeer to perform at a music festival. At around 4am he was snatched, according to an official statement released by the band, by two men driving a "blue coloured minivan." Band was "grabbed by the shirt and hit from behind," losing his footing so he was unable to defend himself.

The two perpetrators robbed Band - although it is not certain what they took- and beat him. According to the statement, the perpetrators pointed a gun in Band's face whilst hitting him with a police baton.

The two abductors only released him when he begged "please don't kill me, I'm going to be a dad." They responded with "we don't kill fathers" and left on nearby railway tracks.

It seems another member of the band noticed the front man's absence and arranged a search party. Once located, Band was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries. According to Brad Taylor, The Calling's representative, Band sustained a fractured lower spine; three broken teeth; bruises and has need fifteen stitches. He was later released from hospital and is continuing working, ensuring he is resting.

Band said "I never thought my unborn child would be my saviour." His wife, Kristin Blanford, is expecting their first child. Upon hearing the news of Band's abduction she tweeted "worst news to wake up to. Praying." She has later tweeted again to say she is "taking a much needed break from social media."

Some reports have suggested Band's abduction is a hoax or that it was somehow linked to drugs. On this matter, Band said "I take my rehabilitation very seriously I was near death due to this unbelievable situation and the rumours are categorically false and not a hoax as reported."

In the statement, Band was reported as saying "I am grateful to be alive and I know I'm destined for bringing music back to my fans." The Calling announced, last week on Extra, that they would be reuniting. They will be releasing acoustic versions of their hits such as 'Wherever You Will Go'. Band was in Lapeer performing with The Calling when the incident took place.
