Movie star Imelda Staunton is expecting to beat Kate Winslet, Hilary Swank, Annette Bening and Catalina Sandino Moreno to be named Best Actress at this month's (27FEB05) OSCAR Awards.

The 49-year-old actress says she detests false modesty and would rather admit she has a fair chance of winning the ACADEMY AWARD for her performance in Vera Drake, in which she plays a middle-aged woman who performs illegal abortions in 1940s Britain.

She says, "I never understood how people get up there and say, 'Oh, I can't believe it.'

"Of course you can believe it. You have a one-in-five chance of winning."
