Iggy Azalea appeared on The Cruz Show on Los Angeles' Power 106 on Friday (27th February) and explained why she has retired from social media. Azalea stressed how emotionally draining cyber bullying and negative internet attention is and how it was making her "hate people". The 24-year-old rapper further emphasised how being caught up in unpleasant Twitter "battles" was detrimental to her work and creativity.

Azalea announced her retirement from Twitter on 18th February. Her account is still active but Azalea's management is running it on her behalf. Azalea explained, before retiring from Twitter, why she wanted to "take some time away from social media".

"I feel the hatred and pettiness I see online at all times is at making me become an angry person and I cannot be that," Azalea wrote. The 'Fancy' singer further explained how she didn't want to become "nasty", in response to unpleasant online attention.

Azalea elaborated on her reasons for taking a break from social media whilst appearing on The Cruz Show. Her primary concern was with how the "negative internet culture" was impacting upon her creativity, especially on the album she is currently working on.

"I think it's dangerous [negative internet culture], especially when you're someone that's having to create things. It does affect your mood, and it, for me, definitely affects when I'm creating things. And I'm in the middle of recording a second album, and I really don't want some angry, aggressive album. Every time I come in the studio I'm like, I just wanna punch everyone in the face. And those are the only songs I'm able to write," Azalea said as MTV reports.

Azalea also claimed using social media and seeing the unpleasant comments was making her "hate people" which, as she rightly pointed out, is not ideal for someone in the entertainment business.

"It makes me hate people, and I don't wanna hate people. My job is entraining people. I love people. I wanna entertain them, that's why I wanted to do this and get on stage and make people feel happy," Azalea said. "And it's really hard to do that when you feel like, what the hell is going on with humanity, where we're all doing this? I prefer the actual polite world. If it's real or not, I don't know, but I like to live in this reality."

Azalea's management has continued to manage her Twitter account and have continued to use social media to share Azalea's music. The same day the interview took place, on Friday, Azalea's management dropped her music video for 'Trouble'. The video, featuring Jennifer Hudson as a police officer, has a slight 70s vibe and centres on Azalea breaking her bank robber boyfriend out of jail.
