The Fancy hitmaker sparked a potential war of words with her Pretty Girls collaborator over the weekend (27-28Jun15) when she suggested the failure of the song was down to poor promotion.
Commenting on the lacklustre chart performance of the duet, which only just cracked the Billboard Hot 100 chart's top 30 in May (15), she tweeted: "It's difficult to send a song up the charts without additional promo and tv performances etc. unfortunately I'm just featured.... i would have enjoyed performing it alot, i think it got off to a powerful start. but you need content to compete in 2015."
Defending her post, she added, "my comment is factual, it applies to any song. I dont have to suck the womans (Spears) a**hole 24/7 to be her friend, do i? bye girls (sic)."
Many critics interpreted the statement as an attack on Spears, prompting Azalea to address the issue again by returning to social media on Monday (29Jun15) and insisting she wasn't bad mouthing the Toxic hitmaker, and now she has released a series of tweets blasting the media for trying to start a new celebrity feud.
She writes, "I am honestly not surprised but still really saddened that the media is trying to create a 'beef' between @britneyspears and myself... We remain friends and i haven't said anything negative at all about her. Does wishing we had promoted a single more make me the bad guy? i feel like the media wants women in music to get out and mud wrestle each other. As a woman i take great offense.
"Women in the media should be able to have a grown up and subjective opinion without it being anything more than that. its disappointing... No one is throwing 'shade' or 'shots' on either side of the table. The girl (Spears) is my friend and i support her 100%... i feel like the press just wants to see girls be overtly sexual to one another, and have no real opinion other than 'i love it!'"
She adds, "Im over it. Women in music are not the same as a teen drama. Stop making us all out to be, we are business women & artists. Not mean girls."
