Luther is set to make a return to our screens for the third season. The psychological thriller starring Idris Elba as John Luther will begin as it finished, an intriguing and intense experience for all who watch.

Luther is depicted as a man who re visits his past and has no desire to shun it which makes him the perfect cop for the horrific spectacles he has to face in the upcoming series. Luther's lack of empathy and mental strain that he willingly engages with, creates a sadistic and unpredictable character, which Idris Elba has mastered.

The creator of 'Wire', David Simon, recently assessed his time working with Elba and told the Baltimore Sun "from the very first episodes, Idris demonstrated the abilities and dynamics of being a breakout star". He also dicussed how he knew Elba was going to be successful as "the presence, the fluidity of the performance - the authority of the character. It was all there in those first lines."

What the viewers can expect to see is how the complexity of the character's battle against Luther's brutal yet intelligent process in solving the horrifically captivating crimes, and a warning for the introduction of an acquainted psychopath, Alice (Ruth Wilson).

It is no surprise that the success of Neil Cross's BBC drama is going to be made into a feature film, a prequel to the start of the first series. According to The Mirror "Cross is hoping for a deal with BBC Films, because the cop series has proved a smash hit for BBC1 since 2010. Fans will be also thrilled Luther's dead wife Zoe (Indira Varma) will still be alive, along with double-crossing colleague Ian Reed (Steven Mackintosh)." 

Fans will finally be able to discover how Luther became the ruthless detective and find out the truth about his troubling past.
