The filmmakers behind Tangled and Wreck-it Ralph join forces for this entertaining animated action comedy, which has clearly been planned as a franchise-launcher. Energetic and funny, the movie is packed with wonderfully engaging characters and animated with clever visual inventiveness. But even though it's a lot of fun, it's difficult to escape the feeling that Disney is trying to sell us a whole new range of products.
The setting is a world populated only by animals, where predators and prey have learned to get along. The story centres on feisty rabbit Judy Hopps (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin), who grew up under pressure to work in the family carrot-farming business. But she wants to be a cop, even though no bunny has ever made the force. Top of her class at police academy, she's assigned to the Zootropolis Police Department, where Chief Bogo (Idris Elba) makes her a meter maid. But she's too ambitious to write parking tickets all day, and teams up with con-artist fox Nick (Jason Bateman) to look into the strange case of a missing otter, which might be linked to a series of unexplained events in which predators suddenly became aggressive and dangerous.
The writers and directors have a great time with the premise, peppering scenes with knowing references mainly to other movies but also to resonant aspects of society, such as the genius casting of sloths as government workers. And there are also much bigger themes rattling around the edges, from how other peoples' expectations constrain us to how politicians use fear to control the public. There's also a cleverly pointed undercurrent about prejudice and diversity. And at the centre, Goodwin and Bateman give solid vocal performances as natural enemies who find a way to trust each other. Of the supporting cast, Elba is the standout as a buffalo who is all bluster.

Elba will soon be back on our screens as detective John Luther, but is anybody over THAT series three bedroom scene yet?
Idris Elba is preparing to return to our screens in a new series of BBC drama ‘Luther’ later this month and the actor is just as excited as the fans to bring the detective back. But during the show’s last series, Elba gave viewers an unforgettable fright, that even left bed manufacturers complaining.
Idris Elba returns as Luther next month on the BBC.
If you haven’t seen ‘Luther’ series three yet we wont spoil it for you, but one particular scene does involve someone hiding in the space under a bed. Speaking about the scary scene Elba told BBC Newsbeat it was, "pretty scary, I ain't going to lie".

Recent reports had suggested that Craig has reversed his position on playing 007, signing up for two more films.
With the release of the highly-anticipated Spectre now imminent, Daniel Craig seems to have changed his tune about the prospects of continuing to be James Bond after recently landing himself in hot water after saying rather “slash his wrists” than play 007 again.
That is to say, he now says he “doesn’t really care” about who will take over as the British spy when he eventually finishes. In the last fortnight, rumours have maintained that Craig has reversed his position and signed up for two more Bond films.
However, when interviewed by The Sun, the 47 year old actor refused to be drawn on what decision he had made. “I have the right to change my mind any time I want to, and sometimes I say things like I did two days after finishing shooting for eight months. I said what was on my mind. That’s the way I’ve always spoken,” he said matter-of-factly.

Although he was worried that audiences weren't going to like him anymore.
At 43, London-born actor Idris Elba has a wide variety of roles under his belt, like his show-stopping character in TV's The Wire and movie roles for a range of filmmakers like Ridley Scott, Danny Boyle and Guy Ritchie. But he hesitated about taking his role in the dark drama Beasts of No Nation, in which he plays the brutal commander of an African militia made up largely of child soldiers.
Idris Elba stayed in character throughout filming
"I'm like, 'Dude, they're not going to like me after seeing this. I was in a Tyler Perry movie!'" he laughs. "This is a tough role. You have to be as authentic as you can in a role like that, otherwise it's pointless and becomes a puppet show of a dictator. I wanted to find a way to make him real."

Daniel Craig doesn’t give a f*** about who next plays James Bond. Despite taking on one of cinemas most iconic roles - let's face it, every man wants to be him and every woman wants to be with him - for four films, with a fifth one in the pipeline, Craig is not bothered about who takes over 007 after him.

‘Homeland’ actor Damian Lewis looks set to be the one to take over the role of James Bond when Daniel Craig steps down as 007. According to the Sunday Mirror, Lewis has been given ‘an unofficial nod’ that he is producer's first choice, if Craig decides Spectre will be his last Bond outing.
Damian Lewis could be your new James Bond.
“If Daniel Craig leaves, it’s Damian Lewis who will be crowned the new Bond,” a ‘well placed source’ told the newspaper. “He is seen as an all-round international star who is perfect for the role. As he ages, he looks increasingly suave and sophisticated.”

Mowgli is a human boy known as a man-cub to his peers, among which are an array of jungle beasts. Left in the jungle as a baby, he was taken in by a family of wolves who raised him as their own. However, the older he grows, the more of a threat he becomes to a formidable villain named Shere Khan; a Bengal tiger with a deep fear of fire and loathing of man. Led by an impatient black panther named Bagheera, he is sent away from his jungle home to the safety of a nearby man village, though the journey becomes less straight-forward the further they stray. Mowgli befriends a fun-loving bear named Baloo, but finds Khan is not the only jungle menace as he is set upon by a gang of monkeys led by the orangutan King Louie, and hypnotised by a vicious snake named Kaa.

Brosnan, who played Bond between 1994 and 2005, believes that Idris Elba probably won't be the next 007 actor and that makers will opt for a white male.
Former James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan reckons that the next star to play 007 will be a white male. For months now, the rumour has been that ‘Luther’ actor Idris Elba would be the next actor cast as the suave British spy, but Brosnan doesn’t believe that the producers will be making that move yet.
“Anything is possible for sure, but I think he'll be male and he'll be white,” he told The Press Association in an interview on Wednesday (September 23rd). However, the 62 year old Irish star did add that “there's wonderful black actors out there who could be James Bond, and there's no reason why you cannot have a black James Bond.”

Horowitz was originally asked whether he thought Idris Elba would be suitable for the role of the next 007.
Idris Elba has posted a great response to writer Anthony Horowitz’s apology for earlier calling the actor too “street” to play James Bond, proving he definitely is “suave” enough to play the British spy.
The 42 year old ‘Luther’ star posted a screengrab of Horowitz’s apology on his own Instagram, writing underneath: “Always Keep Smiling!! It takes no energy and never hurts! Learned that from the Street!!”

Horowitz apologised for using the word during an interview with the Daily Mail at the weekend.
Current James Bond author Anthony Horowitz has released a statement retracting his comments over Idris Elba’s suitability to replace Daniel Craig as 007, after he was accused of racism following an interview in which he claimed the ‘Luther’ actor was too “street” for the role.
In an interview with the Daily Mail published over the weekend, Horowitz said he didn’t think Elba was quite right for the part when asked who should replace Craig, whose new film Spectre may be his last. “Idris Elba is a terrific actor, but I can think of other black actors who would do it better. For me, Idris Elba is a bit too rough to play the part. It’s not a colour issue. I think he is probably a bit too 'street' for Bond. Is it a question of being suave? Yeah.”

When asked whether he could envisage 007 portrayed as a gay man, Brosnan said "Sure. Why not?"
There’s been much talk about Idris Elba being cast as the next James Bond, potentially becoming the first black man to portray 007 on the big screen. However, Pierce Brosnan has said that he could also see the womanising secret agent being portrayed as gay man in future movies.
“Sure. Why not?” he said to Details magazine about whether such a script might be possible, before adding, “Actually, I don't know how it would work. I don't think Barbara [Broccoli, Bond producer] would allow a gay Bond to happen in her lifetime. But it would certainly make for interesting viewing.”

The ‘Luther’ actor is one of the hot favourites to take over from Daniel Craig.
Idris Elba has long been rumoured to be the next in line to play James Bond once Daniel Craig steps down from the franchise later this year. But while ‘The Wire’ actor has previously stated he would take on the role, Elba has now dismissed any rumours as pure speculation.
Idris Elba has spoken about the rumours that he’ll be the next Bond.
“It’s just a rumour. I have no idea,” Elba told the Radio Times when asked about being joint favourite at the bookies with Damian Lewis to replace Daniel Craig. The rumours about Elba taking over the 007 role started when when a leaked Sony email stated that the actor “should be the next Bond”.
Odds have been slashed on the ‘Homeland’ star becoming the first red-headed 007.
‘Homeland’ star Damian Lewis has emerged as one of the frontrunners to replace Daniel Craig as James Bond, after a string of bets caused bookies to slash their odds on the actor. Current Bond Daniel Craig is widely believed to be stepping down as 007 later this year following the release of his fourth film in the franchise, Spectre.
Can you picture Damian Lewis as 007?
Bookie William Hill is now offering 6/4 odds on Lewis becoming the next Bond, having previously put him at 25/1. The move comes after a flurry of £200 bets were recently placed on the ‘Homeland’ actor.

He believes that, even if the chance at landing the coveted role existed, it has now been killed off by people talking about it so much.
Speaking at a question and answer session at the British Film Institute in London on Tuesday, the star of 'The Wire' and 'Luther' told the audience: “honestly, it’s a rumor that’s really starting to eat itself. If there was ever any chance of me getting Bond, it’s gone.”

While Sean Penn lends this thriller some political subtext, the fact remains that it's actually just another vacuous revenge fantasy from Taken director Pierre Morel. Clearly for Morel, the violence is the point, and any depth of meaning is irrelevant, which leaves the film superficially entertaining but a waste of the considerable talent on-screen.
Penn plays Jim, a charity worker in the wartorn 2006 Democratic Republic of Congo. His hot doctor girlfriend Annie (Jasmine Trinca) has no idea that Jim is secretly a black-ops sniper working with fellow mercenary commandos Cox, Felix and DuPont (Rylance, Bardem and Elba). Then their latest mission requires Jim to disappear. Eight years later in an all-new life, Jim discovers that someone is trying to kill him, so he travels to London to find Cox. When Jim's pursuers turn up, Cox sends him to talk to Felix, who now lives in Barcelona with Annie as his wife. With the mysterious killers still on his trail, Jim heads to Gibraltar to tie up the loose ends with DuPont, and finally discovers the truth about what's going on and who's behind it.
Yes, everything is leading to a brutal confrontation inventively set in a bull-fighting ring. But not much else here is either original or convincing. The whole African politics premise is little more than a plot device, while hopping from Congo to Britain to Spain does little more than change the background scenery. Otherwise, the script is so simplistic that it barely holds water, and each ambush, fight and chase sequence feels like something we've seen before. Especially since everything is both over-choreographed and gratuitously grisly. Still, Morel is great at creating a sense of tension that builds ominously from start to finish, adding some gritty urgency through corrupt politicians and self-serving businessmen. Unfortunately, the film continually sidelines these intriguing ideas for more mindlessly violent mayhem.

Idris Elba is likely to be named as the new James Bond after Daniel Craig.
After weeks of speculation that Idris Elba is the main target to take over from Daniel Craig as James Bond, the man himself has finally broken his silence. Elba, a talented actor who would undoubtedly serve as an excellent 007, is, according to leaked Sony emails, the man who is most likely to take over from Craig in two movies' time.
Idris Elba is best known for playing DCI John Luther, but if Sony's chief has her way, he will take over from Daniel Craig as the next Bond
Back in November during a Reddit AMA session, Elba said he would "absolutely" take on the role of Bond if it were offered to him and the leak at Sony revealed that Amy Pascal wants the Luther man to step into 007's famous shoes. "Idris should be the next Bond", the influential studio head said.

There's one sticking point for Rush Limbaugh on Idris Elba.
Idris Elba is widely considered to be the favourite to play James Bond once Daniel Craig hangs up his tuxedo - and Sony emails reveal that Amy Pascal is sweet on the idea - but not everyone thinks old Stringer Bell should be sipping martinis for a living. During his news programme this week, controversial commentator Rush Limbaugh offered his two cents on the matter. Ok lets cut to the chase: Limbaugh says Elba is black, so therefore cannot play Bond.
Idris Elba is probably best known for playing DCI John Luther
"James Bond is a total concept put together by Ian Fleming. He was white and Scottish. Period. That is who James Bond is," Limbaugh said.
