Idina Menzel got her revenge on John Travolta at this year’s Oscars, twelve months after he pronounced her name totally incorrectly at last year’s ceremony. Speaking to the audience before they presented the trophy for Best Original Song together, she said “please welcome to the stage my very dear friend Glom Gazingo.”

One year ago, 60 year old Travolta caused one of the #epicfail moments of the evening after he introduced the Frozen singer to the stage as “Adele Dazeem”. Taking to the podium this time, the actor embraced her and said “I deserve that, but you, my darling, my beautiful, my wickedly talented Idina Menzel.”

Then he kind of ruined the moment by patting her on the face and her holding her chin, which was more than a little weird. Menzel uncomfortably trailed off, saying “You got it, yayyyy.” Earlier on in the evening, he had given Scarlett Johansson an unexpected peck on the cheek.

This caused host Neil Patrick Harris to have a laugh at his expense near the end of the ceremony, when he said “Travolta will be back next year to apologise for all the face touching.” On another occasion, Harris said: “Benedict Cumberbatch. It's not only the most awesome name in showbusiness, it's also the sound you get when you ask John Travolta to announce Ben Affleck.”

It certainly seems as if Travolta-watch is going to become an annual thing at the Oscars. Perhaps it will enter the showbiz language, alongside “doing a Kanye”.

Speaking to Jimmy Kimmel at a post-ceremony special ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live: After The Oscars’, he claimed that Menzel had even thanked him for the name slip-up as it allowed even more exposure during a dazzling 2014 for her. Hmm.
