Turkish folk singer Ibrahim Tatlises is fighting for his life in hospital after he was seriously injured in a shooting in Istanbul.
The 59-year-old musician was reportedly gunned down in the early hours of Saturday morning (12Mar11) as he left a television studio in the city with his spokeswoman, Buket Cakici.
A bullet pierced his skull and surgeons performed a four-hour operation in a bid to stabilise his condition.
Chief surgeon Caglar Cuhadaroglu tells the Afp, "His life is still in danger but the situation has improved since he arrived at hospital."

Turkish singing sensation Ibrahim Tatlises has been accused of threatening his former lover, belly dancer ONUR CAKMAK.
Dancer Cakmak, whose stage name is ASENA filed a lawsuit in Istanbul last week (ends05NOV04), claiming the singer had threatened her since February (04) when she ended their relationship.
Following her suit, Tatlises shocked womens right activists by hosting a press conference, at which he declared he was the only one who had the power to decide when their romance would end.

Berlin's American Embassy has advised citizens against attending a concert by Turkish singer Ibrahim Tatlises tonight (12MAR04) - in the fear terrorists are planning to stage an attack at the gig.
According to a spokesman, American tourists should think carefully before attending the event, following a hand grenade explosion at Tatlises' previous appearance in Hamburg last month (FEB04), in which two people were injured.
The official says, "Based on that suggestion, they might want to avoid the concert."
